Backer Update 2022-09-01

Greetings, dungeoneers!

This week we sat down with a few of the artists we've contacted to make assets to get a general tone and art style down for Fur Quests. There were a few hurdles at first, but in the end, we hope this will go a long way to bringing our vision of Fur Quests to life.

We believe it is important to be open and transparent when it comes to Fur Quests development, especially when it comes to where your donations are being put to use. So we'll be sharing a few sneak peeks of these assets in the future as they are being developed.

But until then, we share more of our own progress with the game!

We mentioned in last week's update that we were experimenting with different styles and processes to make characters quickly and efficiently without sacrificing any of the quality.

To demonstrate here is a sculpt we made of Septim, done in the resolution we intend to use for RPGmaker Unite, which we hope will be a lot better suited for our needs than the current edition of MZ.

As you can see, Septim has no face at the moment. We had hoped this would be a great time saver and a neat stylistic choice. We drew inspiration from the old fallout and diablo games, where you couldn't really see much in terms of facial features, instead putting a much heavier emphasis on body language and bold designs.

But where as the current version of RPGmaker's resolution was too low for our wants, the ones in Unite proved too high, at least for this retro look. For fun, we tried to pixelize it, but even if this gave it a more retro look, we knew that wouldn't fit the more crisp visuals we were working on.

So during the weekend, we will try to go for a more Hades-inspired art style for the models. This will take a bit more work and study, but we hope this will eventually allow us to make quick and simple models that will feel right at home with the new art.

To help with that, we also brought the Lightning Boy shader for Blender. The moment we saw that it had a sketchy hand-drawn effect... We knew we had to have it!

If you have any good inspirations for us to draw upon, feel free to suggest them down in the comments. ^^
