Mid-2023 UPDATE

Hello again, you wonderful JoyBoys! Whether you’re a patron or a fan peeking in from YouTube (or our socials), we welcome you to our long overdue mid-year update!

Engine Check

YouTube: If 2022 was about climbing out of a hole, 2023 has been a much needed return to growth. Although we are admittedly not the biggest fans of YouTube's Shorts program, we cannot deny it's power to keep viewership on the channel in between major releases; which has resulted in a major increase in subscribers and viewership across the channel (we're almost at 150K subs!). We are currently experimenting to see if they can breath new life into older, lower performing series.

In short: Shorts are here to stay, and the YouTube Channel is healthier for it.

Patreon: Patreon continues to be a struggle. Although we are much better off than when we sounded the emergency alarm around MHA: Heroes Rising's release last year, we are still uncomfortably close to our minimum budget: $500/month. If our Patreon drops below this amount, we have to delay releases in order to spread the budget. We can no longer pay out of pocket to our editors, and they still deserve far better pay than what we currently divide among them here. As such, we have been in the process of re-working our Patreon rewards to continue offering the best value amongst abridged/anime content creators WITHOUT increasing the amount you donate.

In short: Patreon is OK, but if we drop below $500/month, we will delay releases. We have changed/increased rewards WITHOUT increasing the amount you donate and are continually grateful for what you've given us thus far.

Podcasts: It was recently announced that, with the exception of THESE BACKWARDS ECHOES,  we will no longer be uploading podcasts to YouTube. As explained in this video, JoyCast clutters our channel and we'd like to stop dividing our listenership between there and our podcasting platforms. We will continue to notify you through YouTube's community feed, Twitter and our Discord with links to new episodes of JoyCast and more!

What's New (and Coming Soon)?

MHA: Joint Training Abridged is available here on Patreon NOW! As always, Patreon gets FIRST dibs on all our parodies until copyright clears on YouTube, which there is never a predictable release time for.

We are currently deep into production on 2 new episodes of Spy x Family ABRIDGED, and have just begun recording for MHA: World Heroes' Mission ABRIDGED.

MewVenus has almost finished recording on Clannad ABRIDGED 03, while SlapHappyChaps is currently writing for Fate/Stay XTRA II.

Although we have made peace with never being able to afford production on a full crossover movie, we are proud to announce that we are also currently deep into production on a performative pitch video for JUMP FORCE ABRIDGED. This video will canonize the major crossover event that sees the characters from My Hero ABRIDGED, Dr. Stone ABRIDGED, and Dragon Ball Subpar engaging in a battle for the survival of the multiverse!

We are retiring our Discord's Movie Night in favor of an Anime Watch Club, starting this SATURDAY JULY 8th @ 8p EST. Available to $1/month Patreon donors. Join us for a watch-a-long of the most noteworthy seasonal Anime, and each week we will vote to eliminate one until we settle on the best of the best. You can vote NOW on the first elimination before it even begins!

What's Cooking (and Coming Later)?

THESE BACKWARDS ECHOES Episode 03 has begun editing, while editing will be wrapping soon on a yet-to-be-announced podcast pilot.

We are also developing 2 Shorts Exclusive anime parodies: Zatch Bell ABRIDGED and Tokyo New Mew.

Writing has just begun on the pilot for a potential new parody series for a little known anime called (checks notes) Oshi No Ko...?
