Added 2023-01-13 18:59:51 +0000 UTCLast night I got the news that my best friend, podcast cohost, and bandmate Nicky passed away suddenly. I don't know that I'll ever quite find the words to articulate just to what degree they were a beacon of optimism and of creative energy in my life and in so many others', how much their natural wisdom and exuberance challenged me to always be the best person I could be, what a constant their presence has been in my life through so many ups and downs, and how much their work has meant to me. But above all, I'm so grateful to have known Nicky these past ten years, I'm so grateful to be so close to so many other people they touched in the same ways with their boundless love and earnestness, and so I'm grateful I was able to share some of our time together with an audience who understood us so completely. I want to thank you for enjoying all of the amazing things our friendship brought out of us, and of the limitless insight, humor, and kindness Nicky had to share. Let your thoughts be with their loved ones today.

I remember there was an episode of the pod where they talked about wanting to be like an 'older sibling' recommending all the cool alternative music and anime to the listeners of Human Insects, and, even though so much was cut short, I think they executed that beautifully. I will forever remember Nicky as the cool internet person that got me into my now-favorite band, 12 RODS. Do whatever you need to do to grieve. I wish you and Nicky's loved ones comfort in this dark time.

2023-01-13 20:33:59 +0000 UTChuman insects and pod spirit have been daily listens to me for months now, it's kept me company on lonely days, and I said as much on twitter but if Nicky passing so suddenly is this devastatingly heartbreaking to me just from the little piece of them I got to know through the podcast, through their writing and through their music, I can't imagine how it must feel for those who knew them personally. I regret never taking the chance to talk to them like I always wanted to, I always admired the level of joy and passion they exuded about everything. I'm wishing you and everyone who knew them the best, and like everyone's been saying, don't feel like you've gotta go right into the next video or anything, take care of yourself and give yourself all the time and space you need.

The chemistry between the two of you was immediately obvious and it made the podcast all the more of a joy to listen to. I know that you sometimes stress yourself out by trying to get videos out within a certain timeframe and I can't really speak for anyone else here but I know that I would certainly be understanding if you needed to slow down or take a break from YouTube for a while. Whatever you do, just remember to take care of yourself
