Digital clock build (no microcontroller)

It's odd to find a clock kit without a microcontroller these days. This one uses purely discrete logic chips, which results in a very serviceable kit. It looks good too.

The mains derived timing is actually really accurate. I wish they did it more.

I have a micro controller blue led clock because I can see blue more clearly. It too lost or gained a couple of seconds per day. I messed around with the caps loading the xtal and managed to get it to keep better time. First clock I made back as a 1st year apprentice electrician in 1976, was on vero strip board and had three layers of vero board interlinked. Like this clock, all discrete TTL, no cmos and no clock crystals back then, so an HC6u xtal was divided down to get the correct timing. I gave up with the crystal timing because I just couldn’t get the division ratio and as a 1st year apprentice not much knowledge either and sampled the 50 hz AC from the psu transformer and got the timing working from that. That’s 50 years ago….. I feel old…..😟

The seller apparently doesn't ship to the US. (The page says "product not found" if you switch your shipping destination to the US.) Thanks Trump. 🙄 Of course it would be more fun to design my own anyway. (But it will cost significantly more than the dollar or so that the kit would have been.)
