Total practice time: 12 minutes
1. (1 minutes) - Watch and play along! This groove is really based on toms. I use accents to get a backbeat from what you normally play on the snare drum. Look closely at my head, and see which hand I follow. Left of course, but why? Because it moves over the toms, it is very important to apply this yourself later.
2. (4 minutes) - Now play it slowly yourself and play your tom 1 and tom 2 harder. Start slowly again and look carefully at where you want to play with your left hand, so look ahead.
3. (4 minutes) - Now you may play a second variation. If you look closely you will see that in the example I do not play the last 3 notes R L L but R R L. An extra exercise. Try this yourself and see what you like to play better. You can also combine to make it even more challenging. So end the first round with R L L and the second round with R R L. Good luck!
4. (4 minutes) - Now try to speed him up. What you can also do as an extra exercise is play with your eyes closed, check whether you still hit the middle of your toms. This is a good exercise to get familiar with your drum kit.
