Just playing openhanded fills is certainly not all you can do, and you'll see in this lesson that there are more possibilities. Let's start!

Total practice time: 12 minutes
1. (3 minutes) - Watch and play along! If we play the first half from 14 seconds on you will see that I leave my left hand on the floor tom as soon as I cross with my right hand. Keep your left hand low here too so that you can easily go over it with your right. Go through the first half 10 times before moving on to the next step.
2. (3 minutes) - Now we actually do the same thing, only we repeat the fill twice in a row. Try to prepare the position of your hands while playing your bass drum, because of the two bass drums you have the time, so use that too.
In addition, you try to keep every stroke as tight and short so that you move as quickly and efficiently as possible.
3. (2 minutes) - Now we go to step three where we make a small switch to open handed and make the molody something different to still make a beating story in your fill. Practice this part separately first, then you can play the entire fill in succession.
4. (4 minutes) - Last step you can improvise. You may try using tom 1 or tom 2 instead of using the floor tom. If this goes well you can also use them all. Note that the fill pattern remains the same, only everything you played on your floor tom can be combined on tom 1 tom 2 or the floor. Have fun! And remember to start slowly.
Have fun with the lesson, and if you have any questions feel free to ask and I'll be happy to answer them.
