Bad News (and good news) about Berm Park

Direct link:

What do you want to hear first?

The Bad News
Berm Park won't be opening this Fall. I had been bracing for this for so long that my original estimate for opening was Spring 2022. Now it looks like that's a safe bet. However much this bothers you, I bet it bothers me more. Still, there's no reason to commiserate.

Elevated Trail Design has been kicking ass, and has been totally on schedule. I'm not really interested in placing blame on anyone. The Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy donated millions of dollars worth of land to the cause, the Town of Canton continues to pour more and more resources into the Chestnut Mountain Project, and the final result continues to look better and better.

For a public project being implemented during the pandemic to only suffer a few months delay is phenomenal. Sorry guys, but we're still getting a sweet public park!

The Great News
Elevated Trail Design will return to Berm Park this Spring, at no additional cost to us, to completely resurface the trails for grand opening. The park will be pristine, just as originally planned.

Even More Great News
Remember Nick, the assistant town manager? Well, he's the actual town manager now, and he's been making smart moves. More resources than before are being devoted to Chestnut mountain, and everyone will benefit.

We are also almost finished with Clickbait trail, which I've included a sneak peak of above! This trail is somehow only a 3 minute climb per lap. It blows my mind. This trail contains a Pucker Pad (up box) ! We need to find a name for it.

With the additional delay, I'm going to slow down the video schedule on the project a bit, and spend time dialing in things like the trailhead kiosk and repair stations.

The extra time will also avail some more funds for us to make the trailhead extra special.

Patron Ride Day or Sneak Peak
For the same liability reasons we can't open the park this Fall, I'm unsure when I can organize an exclusive ride day for contributors. People keep asking about it, and I can't really answer until I have a date. Rest assured you will be the first to know!

Thank you all for your help in this project, and sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I try my best to pad time estimates to avoid breaking people's hearts, but this time everyone seemed really confident about a Fall opening. All in all, we're getting a public bike park with world class features. I ain't mad!

Bad News (and good news) about Berm Park

Comments

sorry, where's the bad news? You guys are effin killing it to say the least

Any word on if that crazy rain we just 8/17 has added any set backs?

Shane

Honestly considering how much things have been getting delayed from the pandemic, a few months is essentially on time. This project in my town is now a year and a half behind schedule so kudos for keeping things moving!

Looks awesome!! Can’t wait to ride it.

Wow, those are some big tables, looks sick!

How can that only take 3 minutes to climb? Seems like too much fun for such a short effort. I just got back from our "local" bike park (Skypark) and it has similar features but costs $$. Canton is so lucky you live there and you did this for everyone. Thanks Seth!

Perfectly okay (or well beyond okay) with me, Seth. Aside from finding opportunity on YouTube, you’ve built tons of ways to give back to your viewers, community, and family. Thank you tons.

I totally understand Seth love the videos been supporting ever since you talked about berm park I’m from NC and can’t wait to go to the opening day I really hope I can meet you

Thanks for letting us know. That frees me up to make other plans now for what little fall vacation time I have.

Adrenaline Zen MTB

Thank you for the update, almost everything these days take some special consideration and requires great patience. When it's ready we will come. In the meantime keep doing what you always do.

No one ever remembers projects being completed late, just that it was done safe... and I’m sure you are the one who feels the most guilt about it. All is good!

Thanks for the update but i totally understand. These are weird times so delays are bound to happen. Take your time!

Good things take time, Great things take patience, the Best things take both! However, if you DO happen to figure out a planned Patreon pre-opening date by this October (for a date next spring), I'll be able to book a vacation week so I can head down! 😁 (we have to bid our entire 2022 vacation days in Oct 2021, 😔)

Not bad news at all! Thanks for all your work getting this set up right.

Thank you, Seth!

Do you have any insight to the other trails within Chestnut mountain? Thanks for the update. Things happen, it's understandable. It's how we handle setbacks that define us. Like being honest and up front, so thanks for that.

Looking great! It will be that much better in the spring, although we all hoped for sooner. Only a 3 minute climb (pedaling) to ride that awesomeness again? That's amazing!

That's okay! This is a huge project and will benefit the community for so long. It will be well worth the wait.

Cody Grandfield

Excited for the patreon ride!

Darn, still can't wait to ride it. Also the trail looks so fun.

At the end of the day it will be a great park for all to enjoy. A few months delay doesn’t detract from that one bit.

Andy Olson

Thank you Seth. I can't wait for the pateron ride!!!!
