2025-12-18 15:29:25 +0000 UTCIn the Manga the other applicants circled Hisoka because he was running around killing players by throwing his cards at them in the fog, Kurapika even deflected a few and one hit Leorio in the arm, he claimed he was helping out in the selection process of the exam out of boredom. Then he ran around dicing up players with his cards while laughing until only Kurapika, Leorio and a rando were left. He also never choked Gon here, but gently grabbed him by the neck while talking do him. It's also visually more graphic than the anime, obviously. I'm assuming the earlier portions of Hunter x Hunter have censorship like this for Japanese TV laws regarding the timeslot it played in or something? Unsure, but many of the changes here downplay Hisoka's homicidal tendencies for some reason. This isn't unique, as most anime adaptations of shounen have at least some form of censorship regarding how graphic the violence gets, but it effecting a character's personality just felt weird enough to me to point out.
