"japan doesn't really care about western copyright law"
-> I love this, in that they use w/e they want, but claim everything despite it being allowed in the country in which they are claiming it. The irony.
I did realise it (at least at some point) but I am unsure when that was

hmm, i thought you'd have picked up on it by now. yeah, all stands in jojo are named after singers, bands or song titles.
japan doesn't really care about western copyright law, so araki is free to use whatever he feels like. when dubbed into english however, they file of the name of the stands.
for example, this time around the main group's stands are changed as follows: gold experience to golden wind, sticky fingers to zipper man, moody blues to moody jaaz, sex pistols to six bullets, aerosmith to lil' bombber, pruple haze to purple smoke and spice girl to spice lady.
in part 4 it was: crazy diamond to shining diamond, echoes to reverb and killer queen to deadly queen.
i actually thought you realized when you started using subtitles with the proper translation, instead of the older ones, who all had the dubbed names. guess it was just a coincedence then *shrug*.
