This one is very Final Book Illustration-heavy because I've been working on finishing a picture book this past few weeks. Images 3-10 in the gallery are all zoomed-in screenshot crops of A Line Can Go Anywhere, the biography book about sculptor Ruth Asawa that I've been working on. I cannot express the love I feel for this book enough. Each page felt like a little exploration into unfamiliar territory with my art. I spent a lot of time just really experimenting with texture, finessing the way I used it, and seeing how I could push the "feeling" just a little further. This is a book I hope people will want to look closer at. :-)
Image 1 are some different poses I was playing with for my sad valentine luchador drawing. I ended up going with a sort of defeated standing stance, rather than something more active. Also I am getting really into the aesthetics of lucha libre wrestlers. like really really into it. like I have a whole pinterest board now and I can't stop thinking about it.
Image 2 is a very zoomed in crop of a front-and-back book jacket I've just finished up (sans spine decoration--the designer will add that in later!) The colors are very dark and spooky, and there's a giant octupus lurking on the back. To be honest, I really struggled feeling 100% satisfied with this cover. I like it enough, but there's a lot I would want to start completely over on. And I simply can't do that due to time and money!
In general, since I've met some important deadlines I have had a lot more time to create for myself and just draw for fun. And for once (very rare now), I feel excited to draw in my down time :') It's been a good feeling.
I'm off to the gym now!! Stay warm! have a great Tuesday!
