"But...He's just a little kid, and I barely even know his brother!" Hailey had her arms folded and she was glowering down at her twin brother; Bailey was shrinking in her presence, but he was still willful enough to advocate for his own desires. The argument had broken out after Hailey had reminded him that the party was today, and that he needed to get ready. To rewind a few days, Bailey had gotten a goofy little invitation in their mailbox. It had little party balloons on it, and childish designs around the border; Bailey had actually found it rather adorable on an aesthetic basis. It was an invitation to a birthday party, and who was the birthday boy? Turning six this Saturday, it was Troy! Now, the real question was, why did a Kindergartner have Bailey on his guest list? That was a question that had less to do with school or their neighborhood, and more to do with Bailey's after-school athletic of choice: gymnastics. The gymnastics class he took was a beginner's course, and he was actually the oldest of the kids in the class. Being smaller and more childish, he'd never felt out of place, so it'd never been much of an issue. Troy was one of the younger students who wasn't actually old enough to be in Bailey's section. The class was split as such: two to five year olds were on one side, while six to nine was on the other, with Bailey being the oldest at ten. It being this way, Bailey had really only interacted with Troy a handful of times. Then there was Jaime, who was Troy's older brother, and Bailey had talked to him a couple of times too. Jaime wasn't a part of the class, but he sat at the sidelines to watch his brother, and he was someone that Bailey knew went to his school. Jaime wasn't in his class, since he was a grade ahead, but Bailey had seen him around the school. The few times that Bailey had talked to him, he'd seemed like a cool guy; it was sometimes hard to tell if he was teasing or not, but he'd complimented Bailey after gymnastics before. Regardless of the history lesson, Bailey was left confused as to why he ended up on the guest list for this party. He'd been content to just ignore the invitation, but then Troy's mother had called to confirm, and Bailey's mother had said that he'd go, without knowing any of the pertinent details. When Bailey had heard about that, he'd been quick to try to get out of it, but then his sister had to go and guilt him about it. Strangely enough, it almost came across that she had a secret motive for being so pushy about this; she was a bossy girl usually, but this topic had felt particularly pointless to Bailey, so he thought there must be some other reason at play. "Are you afraid that you're going to have an 'accident' at the party? Is that it?" Hailey brought up, sounding skeptical about the 'accidental' part of 'accident'. "W-what? No! That's not the point at all!" Bailey squeaked, getting pink in the face as he clutched his bunny to his chest tightly. "I just think I'm a little old to be going." "You? Too old?" Hailey opened up Bailey's underwear drawer and pulled out one of his puffy pairs of 'briefs" with one hand, while the other brought out one of the diapers that had been inside since their trip to the store. "You want to rethink what you just said?" The cloth training pants didn't shame him much, since they'd been a part of his life for such a long time, but the disposable diaper was another story; he was only wearing them to bed at the moment, but his father had been pretty clear about what his trajectory would be if he didn't stop messing himself. The colorful Pull-Ups had actually been what he'd primarily been wearing lately, at least intermittently to cut down on laundry. "You know what I mean, Hailey..." "I don't really think I do, baby bro. You're talking like you're so much more mature than this Kindergartner, but I'd be willing to bet that he gets to wear normal undies. He's already ahead of you on that." The girl pointedly mentioned, putting the garments back in the drawer. "I'll make this easy for you, Bailey. You're going to the party, and I'll come with to make sure you stay out of trouble." Hailey declared, to which Bailey looked confused. "I don't need a babysitter for a birthday party..." "Your potty-pants say otherwise. Now stop whining and get ready; mom already got a present for you to give him, and she's going to drive us over there in an hour." If Bailey had been more attentive to the context clues at play, then he might have understood why his sister was being so pushy about this. Bailey had only been thinking about the birthday boy, Troy, but his sister had her mind firmly on the older brother, Jaime. She had a huge crush on the fifth grader, and aside from seeing him a couple of times at her brother's gymnastics class, she'd never gotten much of a chance to flirt. So the party invitation had been fortuitous to say the least. If it'd been from any other six year old, then she never would have pressured Bailey like this, and instead would have mocked him if he'd gone of his own accord. This was all completely self-serving, and Bailey was clueless. Bailey dressed nicely, but still with comfort and cuteness in mind; since he would be gone for a few hours, his mother had been pretty insistent about going in the disposable pull-ups, and bringing a changing bag, just in case. It wasn't too much of an inconvenience; even before all this, he'd usually brought along an extra pair of his bulky undies, in case he piddled himself too much from excitement. Troy and Jaime lived a couple of miles away, so it wasn't a long drive to get there, aside from some minor traffic. Bailey had a wrapped gift in his hands, which his mother had informed him was an action figure, and Bailey figured Troy would like that. Bailey's whole plan for the party was to briefly wish the best to Troy about his big day and then likely try talking to Jaime, who was at least closer in age. Admittedly, Jaime was a little intimidating. He was a year older, and with Bailey already being small, it made Jaime feel much bigger than him. He was also so cool and suave, that Bailey felt kind of goofy when he talked to him, like he had to impress the older boy. Altogether, Jaime made Bailey slightly uncomfortable, but it'd still be less awkward than carrying a conversation with a bunch of Kindergartners. Arriving at the party, Bailey would see that it had a pirate theme; he wasn't put off by the childishness of it, more-so that he thought pirates were kind of icky, with how foul and swarthy they were usually depicted as. Kids walked around with little costume adornments, such as eye-patches and plastic swords. Bailey was offered his own, to which he politely accepted. He went and put the gift down in the pile and looked around the backyard where the party was being held; the parents had gone all-out, even hoisting up a Jolly Roger on the play-fort. His sister didn't look impressed, but she hadn't come here for the party. "Oh, hey Bailey!" Chirped the birthday boy from afar. Troy hurried over to greet the oldest of his guests. The six year old was gap-toothed and goofy, but he had a good heart, and way too much energy. He had on a unique 'captain's hat' to show that he was the top pirate at this party, which Bailey thought was kind of adorable. "Hi Troy! Happy birthday, thank you for inviting me. You remember my twin sister? I hope it's okay that she came too." Bailey smiled. While he might not want to be here, he also had no intention of hurting the little boy's feelings. "Uh-huh! Well... I guess there's already girls here, so she can stay...But she doesn't get any cake! Captain Troy says!" The tyke decreed, raising and rattling his plastic saber. "Well that's just rude." Hailey murmured with a scowl, "Whatever, where's your older brother at?" "I dunno. Jaime was here a minute ago, but I guess he's gone. Maybe he had to go potty or something." Troy shrugged, seeming disinterested by the question and who asked it. "Are you excited to be six now? You're getting pretty old!" Bailey steered the conversation back to something more positive, ironically acting more maturely than his sister for once, and while padded too! Hailey rolled her eyes and walked away to go look around for Jaime, while Troy excitedly told Bailey how his big day had been so far. Troy would then go on to introduce Bailey to some of his more age-appropriate friends from his Kindergarten class; Bailey recognized a few already, from the gymnastics class mostly. As young as these kids were, a few did make snide little comments about the fact that a 'big kid' was carrying his pink stuffed bunny around like an oversized toddler. Bailey laughed it off, finding it to be a preferable shame to what else could be exposed. The kids that didn't tease him were seemingly impressed that Troy had an older friend, which Bailey suspected was why he'd been invited in the first place. "Glad that you could make it." Bailey cocked his head back and matched the voice to a face: it was Jaime! The white-haired boy gave a nervous grin and turned to fully greet the fifth grader. "H-hey, thanks. I wouldn't want to miss Troy's pirate party..." Jaime chuckled and nodded, "I see you're playing the part, though I can't think of any pirates that would be as pink as you...Or ones that carry around a bunny instead of a parrot." The playful banter came to a grinding halt as Hailey noticed that Jaime had come back outside; she'd hurried back over to where her brother was and had butted right into the conversation. "Hey Jaime! I like your costume." "Huh? Uh, thanks. You're...Bailey's sister, right? Hannah?" "Hailey." She swiftly corrected. "I'm Bailey's *older* sister." Bailey gave Jaime a look, "We're twins. We're just not the same size." "No kidding...She's all tall and you're a regular pipsqueak. Nothing wrong with that, though." Jaime grinned, focusing back on the boy. "You want a soda or anything?" "Got any juice?" Bailey asked, as he started to walk off with Jaime, while his sister looked befuddled and irate. "Haha! I like you, Bailey; you're a funny dude. I bet we got some apple juice with your name on it." Bailey found himself leaning on the counter in the kitchen, where Jaime was looking in the fridge. After a few moments of moving things around, he found a juice box and closed the door. The older boy smiled and peeled the straw from the side of the box, "Do you want me to put it in for you?" He playfully teased. "I-I can do that part myself..." Bailey meekly replied, cheeks getting pink. "Hmmm...I don't know...I think I should help you." Jaime put the straw in and handed the apple juice over. "So...Bailey, uh, I'm happy you decided to come. Troy wasn't really the one that invited you, I was. I told him that he should have you over for the party, but I wasn't sure if you'd want to come, since it was a birthday for a little kid..." Bailey sipped from the straw, "Oh, yeah, I wasn't really sure about coming. My sister actually made me come, but I think because she wanted to see *you*." The older boy laughed at the irony of the situation; neither younger sibling had made the decision that led to Bailey being here, it was the older siblings that had made it happen for their own ulterior motives. "Really? I don't think I've really ever said much to her before." "We haven't talked that much either." The pale lad pointed out, "I think she like-likes you. She looked kinda peeved when you walked away from her." A grimace formed on Jaime's face and he shook his head, as if put off by the idea of Hailey crushing on him. "...Oh. Well, uh, I kind of have my eyes set on someone else. You want to see my room?" Before Bailey could answer, Jaime's dad came in the kitchen and mentioned that they were about to cut the cake and sing 'Happy Birthday' to Troy. It felt a little early to do that, but it was probably a good idea to get the sugar-rush out of the way now with all the tykes. The two returned to the party outside and took their place at the table to eat cake, Hailey tried to sit next to Jaime, but the older boy quickly ushered Bailey to sit next to him instead. She looked irritated again, to which Bailey couldn't help but chuckle at. It was so rare to see Hailey envious toward him about anything, and green was not a good look for her; he knew that he'd have to deal with her fury at home later, but it felt like a worthwhile trade in the present. The cake was delicious and colorful; Bailey especially liked the way that the sprinkles on the cake would stain the scoop of vanilla ice cream various colors. The boy had a major sweet-tooth, not unlike the gaggle of Kindergartners that he was seated with. Jaime would go on to offer him part of his own slice too, stating that it looked like Bailey really enjoyed it. Afterwards would be more games, and Jaime told Bailey to sit around for a moment, so that he could help his parents set things up. Seeing this opportunity, his sister pulled him aside with a furrowed brow on her face. "What do you think you're doing?" He blinked, "I was...Sitting?" "Not that, you clod. You're hogging Jaime all to yourself! You're here for the baby's birthday, not to get in my way! You need to stop bothering the big kids, Bailey." The smaller boy held his rabbit tightly and frowned. He *was* one of the big kids! His sister was just mad that Jaime wasn't interested in her! "I'm not bothering him...He's the one wanting to talk to me." Hailey put her hands on her hips, "And why would he want to talk to a baby like *you*? Especially when there's a pretty girl around?" "I don't know, maybe he just doesn't like you like that." The larger girl suddenly grabbed Bailey by the front of his shirt, "Look, squirt. I want you to stay away from him. Go play with the other babies for the rest of the party." Bailey squirmed in her grasp, "B-but he wanted to show me his room..." "Then say no! Otherwise, I'm going to make sure you regret it." She released him, but didn't stop her glowering. "I might decide you need a pants-check. Right in front of everyone here." He started to buckle under her threat, but then he felt a hand on his shoulder. "There, all set up! Now I can show you all my cool stuff. You coming?" Bailey looked between the boy and his sister. He knew his twin well enough to know when she was making a real threat, and she definitely was right now; on the other hand, he couldn't allow her to boss him around forever, regardless of the regression that his already flimsy maturity had seen. He also thought Jaime was really cool, and he didn't want to be impolite. An image flashed through his mind, where his sister was true to her word and decided to give him a very public pants-check. A dozen Kindergarten brats captivated and stunned by the sight of the big kid in Pull-Ups, and Jaime disgusted by nearly befriending an oversized baby. The very thought sent a chill down his spine and he could feel a warmth trickle into his training pants. How deep the nightmare could go, especially with all the messy accidents that he'd been having lately. What if he froze on the spot and made a big smelly lump in the back of his Pull-Up? It wasn't such a far off scenario, and it was probably the absolute worst thing that could occur. Even still, he felt a rare confidence inside of himself. He wasn't going to let Hailey decide who he could and couldn't be friends with, and he couldn't worry about what *might* happen. He needed to be bold for once! "Sure. Let's go!"
