Week 23-24 progress update

I started the week working on a new video which I aimed to publish on TikTok. Unfortunately, soon after starting work on this project I caught a bad bacterial throat infection. It gave me a fever and it got gradually worse as the long bank holiday weekend approached. I had to call 111 and got saved by antibiotics.

On this occasion, I really got to appreciate how lucky we are to have these medicines. I have some doubts I would have managed to survive this otherwise. It may sound like an exaggeration, but it was that bad. Simply put,the bacteria were stronger than my immune system. My mouth and throat were swollen like crazy.

This little adventure has also reminded me that I should take more care of my body. I should do more physical exercise and go out more often. Now that I work from home, I  have less and less day-to-day contact with people and maybe this is one reason why my immune system seems so weak.

Anyway, around the end of week 24 I started feeling a bit better. I took it easy and had some fun. I played a bit with the emscripten toolchain. I wanted to explore how easy or difficult it would be to run my engine inside the browser using WebAssembly. I was very pleased to see how easy it was to compile the engine and produce a binary that can be loaded by the browser. The binary does not yet fully work, but I can see its log messages. It seems there are some small issues to fix in the shaders.

It feels like I am very close to running the engine in the browser, which is fantastic! This will allow me to easily distribute prototypes of my game for people to play and evaluate. This will soon become very important, as I am about to enter the second half of this year, which I plan to devote to finally building my relativistic game.
