The .50 bmg is a 100 year old design. The .416 was designed in 2005 by Chris Barrett as an improvement. Few people I have talked to have even heard of the .416, so here is a video from Future Weapons showing it. The clip is ridiculously melodramatic,
Gregg and I are planning to film a guest shooter's rifle this week. The rifle is a M99 chambered in .416. This is a faster and slimmer bullet than the .50 bmg, but lighter. It is a more-efficient shape and stays supersonic much further than the .50. (over 1.2 miles) The .416 is a wildcat round that uses a .50 bmg case, cut down and necked down.
I'm not sure what ranges we will be shooting at. We had to find a different shooting location to safely shoot this thing. Anyway, I should be posting our video in a week or less.
Stay tuned!
