How to make a .69 Cal. Minie Ball work in a .73 cal Shotgun

I have gotten many people telling us that a Minie ball doesn't need a sabot or even a gas seal to function in a 12 ga shotgun.   "it's designed to expand in the barrel"  was the common denominator as far as criticisms go.    We've made enough mistakes over the years to know what NOT to do.    So we just treated these like any modern sub-caliber round and use a sabot.   Since we knew a Minie would not expand .040",   we knew we would need a real gas check  and since we aren't relying on the tail of the Minie to expand,   we filled the cavity up to increase the bearing surface.    Hopefully this all makes sense.  It's loaded exactly the same way as any modern sabot shotgun round is.

I don't know how you put up with all the trolls that bad wrapping all the time. I would just tell them to fuuk off. Just kidding, I know you can't do that on YouTube.

Very interesting video, thanks for clarifying the situation. I knew you were doing it right all along.

Thanks for the tutorial, Jeff. Too bad that there isn't an alternative to YT. Back in the old days when a tranny went between the motor and the driveshaft we didn't have these problems.

It went bang and down range, can't see how you were doing anything wrong :)

Filling the cavity *decreased* the bearing surface. You said it wrong! :-)

The obvious solution is to swage the barrel down to an internal diameter of .69 - c'mon - how hard is that to figure out? (;-) A very well-thought out solution to the particular challenges of the hollow-based Minie ball. I particularly liked the choice of a more robust gas seal, as well as the notion of the rim bearing surface causing collapse of the shot cup base. I wonder how it would work to fill the base with shot? Always interesting, always thought-provoking thoroughly analyzed procedures. Great.

Thanks for this very imformative video! That is one of the reasons why I love your channel so much! Another is of course shooting exotic and weird stuff, along with the destruction it brings.
