Winchester BRI Sabot slugs. 50 cal. beasts

The Winchester BRI Sabot bullets are not the most well-known American slugs.   Oddly,  the box says they are for rifled barrels or rifled chokes.   Knowing some of the history about these,   the slugs were designed in the early 60's at a time when rifling on shotguns wasn't a thing.   Why Winchester would not market these as a universal slug that work great through a smooth bore seems like a missed-opportunity to sell a TON of these.

Thank you for your support!!

Another suggestion, cost is factor, showing WHAT slugs do when going through media, like drywall boards, wood paneling, etc. Banded wet magazine showing penetration is very good (personally tested many dozens of different calibers into wide variety of different media, seeing what bullet looks like using cardboard box of paper/brochures, etc, determining how far bullet penetrated (AFTER going through 4" plumber clay, 1/2" drywall, 1/4" paneling, more demonstrative water jugs done outside, determining what 44mag Glaser Safety Slug does to gal water NOT inside work

Suggestions: unless better for Taofledermaus, what about an ANNUAL supporter payment (i.e. paying $12 one time for year). IF needed to stay on YouTube let the group know when more than $1 is needed. If one time payment to support, not tied to the monthly or annual support donation, how to donate the individual specific amount.

Great seeing a site showing real world testing of the normal and NOT so normal (define what's normal in this century) using FIREARMS. Not surprising that YouTube (Google owned) is slowly UNDER THE TABLE working to force anything related to those "evil guns" from the internet their idea and words, NOT mine).

Danny must be getting ready for winter with the tape on the hat. 2-3 more months and he will have er taped right up and keeping that cold wind off his head.

I suspect that the only part of that slug that isn't compatible with a smooth bore is the ballistic chart on the box. The drop will be more than that chart shows and I bet that is why they say not for smooth bore: To ward off the whiners who are shocked that the round drops more without a bit of spin from some rifling.

I got it but a comprehensive test with 1 shot gun with the two options and a single sabot would be helpful and I would be willing to contribute components just let me know where to send them.

Gary A

No I'm serious what is his hat size and what is your mailing address ?

Gary A

I think the hat is just a running joke. People seem to comment more about the hat than anything else, so danny just keeps adding tape to the hat. lol

TAOFLEDERMAUS

It doesn't seem like the rifled choke really added much, at least to that one shot.

TAOFLEDERMAUS

Lik you said too ad somebody like dduplex couldn't gin up something like this up in steel and make it work. I brought them up as they seem to be into doing slugs in steel.

P.S. What size hat does Danny wear?

Gary A

Looks like I won't have to get a rifled barrel after all just spend the money on practice ammo. I would like to see more comparisons on full rifled barrel verses a rifled choke tube for accuracy and sabot stabilization, if that 500 came with a choke tube barrel it would be the perfect test bed. Thanks for the education .

Gary A

Looks like a cool design, gives me an idea...

Jiminy criminy..!! Would somebody please buy Danny a new hat..!! Or at the very least let him shoot under a shade tree..!!

haha, pretty soon it will be just duct tape

TAOFLEDERMAUS

That duct tape probably cost more than a new hat, Danny.

"We don't have lucrative contracts like that." I don't mean to wish against you making a good paycheck, but I really hope you stay closer to the grass roots late-nights-in-the-garage makers like Ballistic Machinist. :-)
