Blackpink's Jisoo x Youngji (Uncut: 98 Minutes)

My uncle said he wanted to check out someone from Blackpink. So, we checked out someone from Blackpink. Also think these conversations make for a good analysis.

Blackpink's Jisoo x Youngji (Uncut: 98 Minutes)

Comments

It's funny how interested bts fans are in Blackpink content. In fact, they have more comments and longer essays in this thread. And they just have to emphasize that Blackpink have fewer songs (sadly true), doesn't write their songs (not true, they got writing credits on some of their songs), and has simple choreographies (my opinion, Blackpink are performers and not dancers. Their choreos suit well in their concert sets while they sing live.) I find it ironic how people start their sentences with "don't compare" and end up comparing them. Throwing shade at Blackpink girls even. I don't know much about bts or any other kpop artists but I respect the work they put into their craft. i think kpop idols are some of the most hardworking artists out there.

TLDR but I'd like to point out one thing, that is completely understandable you guys missed since you only have one video to go off of Jisoo, is that while Jisoo definitely matches Youngji's energy, it's not so much about Youngji herself bringing that out in Jisoo but just a constant for Jisoo. Jisoo is VERY goofy all on her own and around people who are not all that energetic either, she's usually the one bringing in the humor. She likes to make people around her laugh and does so very often and it's usually calculated too. If you watch behind the scenes videos of her with her members or even interviews in korean (she tends to get quieter in english interviews), you'll notice she is always being goofy and making others laugh. So I think the combo of Jisoo and Youngji was a match made in heaven because they compliment each others humor very well. I do also want to point out that one thing you guys really nailed was the fact that Jisoo does not want the attention on herself. Even when she is being funny herself, her intention is never "look at me! look at how funny and goofy I am!" but more so to invoke a reaction on the people she is with - that's not to say she doesn't handle it well when the attention is on herself, because she does, but more so that that's never her intention. Also, I found really interesting how you guys picked up on Jisoo's upbringing. While Jisoo has said that while growing up her parents gave her a lot of freedom, as she was the youngest and by that point her parents were done with the novelty of having a kid (her words), she has also said that her family wouldn't take many pictures of her as a kid and was often criticized for her looks and even called "ugly" and "monkey" by her own family. Her family is also of great wealth and runs in elite circles, so the assumption that she was held to high standards for appearances sake, I'd say is accurate.

I don't really understand why watching a wholesome video sparked so many rant comments? I'm not a blink but the Blackpink girls all seem very sweet and very well loved by peers in the industry. I think most of the drama between Blackpink and other groups is just caused by immature fans on either side. Anyways, I'd be interested in seeing more Blackpink analysis videos!

yasmine

fair! count me in as one who's still really interested to see more of them

G

That's ok, you did a lot with him already and I appreciate both of you taking the time to react to different people while you had the chance! Will check out the channel he started once he posts on it, I'm curious of the content he'll put out :) And looking forward to your next reaction to ATEEZ as well!

Delphine

Unfortunately didn't get around to ATEEZ w/ Uncle Harley... But I'll get around to them on my own.

Max Beaumont

if there's enough interest, i still likely will

Max Beaumont

Same for Seongjoong with other members! And yes, that live was so wholesome 😭 I need more HongSanHwa lives haha

Delphine

Oh I thought about recommending the vlive before. Idk why but in general I just love the energy of Seongjoong's when they go live with one of their younger members. And the way they indulged precious San during the part you suggested 😭

Linaccessible.

I know there already is but I know he has rewatched some BTS and Stray Kids stuff with his uncle and I think that if he wanted to check out some Seventeen stuff with his uncle Hoshi's interview with Youngji might be a good thing to rewatch and fun for us to see from a communications coach and phycologist standpoint

Elina

There is already a reaction to Hoshi's video with Youngji

Sorry this is so long🫣 hope it helped give some perspective if anyone read it:) Not meant to be negative at all either please don’t take it that way ahaha.

Even among multis, there isn’t a ton of overlap in BG/GG fans. GG fans typically stay with GGs and vice versa. The way the groups are followed and how the fandoms move seem to be a bit different too. What is common is that both sets of fans constantly degrade the other groups and will come up with 1000 reasons why you shouldn’t like the other and can only like 1. BTS/BP being the groups with the most fans (so even a small % of toxic fans is a large number) means that the fanwars are particularly bad. It turns a lot of people off from the other side, even if you’re just a bystander. It’s so in your face that even if you try to follow both, it’s more of an unpleasant hassle than it’s worth over something you’re following for enjoyment. “Kpop” is also very broad (more of a culture than a genre) so the comparisons tend to fall flat. Kpop is characterized by 4+ members singing/dancing/and usually rapping in korean, going through the trainee system, trying many genres, having a set fan base, +/- . The variations in each of those factors (among a ton of other things) create almost a limitless range of what each group could bring. That’s part of the appeal, if you’re following more than one group it’s not like following the same thing over and over, you experience something new every time. But it ends up with people who aren’t as familiar with kpop (understandably) comparing groups like BTS/BP who only share the classic kpop “traits” but have basically no comparable overlap in those categories. No group is for everyone, but no group that’s a big phenomenon for a long time sucks as bad as people want to believe. People just use their distaste as a way to “prove” how terrible a group is🫠 I believe a lot of fans have a negative view on kpop as a whole and will be able to get over that prejudice for the group they like (and be sad that they let it hold them back for so long) but still manage to hold that against every group they don’t follow. You will get a lot of “x group is NOTHING like kpop” comments for almost every group when kpop actually isn’t something you can really put in a box like that in the first place. There’s a lot of unnecessary putting other groups down (usually that were never given a chance by the downer) to bring another up and it’s a real shame🫠 Anyway I appreciate you having your uncle Harley check out another group and him taking the time to try and understand why so many people love this like they do. As always, would love to see more!!

I'm just gonna use this space to rant yall can ignore it lol I just wish people didn't compare blackpink to BTS because BTS had it wayyy harder and had to work WAAYYYY harder to get where they are, BTS literally started off poor, so poor that they had to search for and use left over furniture that others threw away, the kpop industry was literally against them ever since they were teens. BTS are also self made artists that built their company from the ground UP. Blackpink worked hard but they debuted in a big three company, so their success was immediate and on top of that, their songs are given to them and the dances aren't anything diffrent from what a regular person can do. It bothers me so much when people give that "paved the way" title to other groups because it was BTS who have paved the way for kpop artists to promote their music much easier in the west, this is not only confirmed by the actually events that have taken place since BTS's 2017 TV debut at the AMAs, but this is confirmed by Kpop idols themselves, Sooo many Kpop fans always discredit, villainize, defame, spread harmful rumors about, and just straight up attack BTS because they cannot stand the fact that this non big 3 group made unprecedented history in the music industry, which in turn BENEFITTED their favorite groups INCLUDING blackpink and they know that, we should be celebrating this but people are always trying to downplay them and it sucks. Like why are people giving BTS's achievements to other groups? It especially bothers me because BTS are so freakin humble and i feel like the industry takes advantage of that, that's why i'm glad that armys are quick to correct those journalists or bts antis who try everyday to spread misinformation or try to do that "next bts" thing. Armys and black pink fans do not get along, there are armyblinks tho. As far back as I can remember, maybe 2018-2019 some blinks created a group chat planning to spread terrible sa rumors about Jungkook on twitter, and ever since then it's gotten worse. Even now they keep making vile r word comments about certain BTS members, most of that fandom seems to be on board with that disgusting bs, to the point where they changed their dns on twitter into something disgusting about Jimin, they dragged his name through the mud as they usually do, but especially so recently just because he used autotune in Set Me Free PT. 2. Just two days ago, a hugely followed blackpink fan account encouraged fellow blinks to bring back their r word "jokes" as a way to attack bts, Armys have been emailing hybe to take actions against these people for a long time now so we just have to wait. The resentment between the fandoms run deep, it's been years. If ur a blink and and don't engage in that bs then this rant ain't about u

Bangtanlicious

Agreed! They're really completely on opposite ends of the spectrum artistically, musically, history-wise... with not much overlap at all. So the GP + music industry comparing them makes no sense. They're in completely separate categories as bands, but just both happen to be out of Korea.

Seneca

Honestly, I don't feel it's especially the West. I'd even say that the general public compares them less since they're a girl group and a boy group, while Kpop fans are the ones comparing them and their popularity levels the most. I do feel like there's really not many blinkarmy though, exactly because of all the differences you mentioned and just their very different vibes, and so there's not that much overlap in terms of oh if you love following one of them, you will definitely like the other too. They're both huge so in the mix there's for sure ARMY that love Blackpink's music and the other way around, but it would be more being casual fans of the second group rather than stanning both? Or maybe the Blinkarmy just stay more hidden because it must be hard being one on public social media these days ^^'

Delphine

I was also wondering if you planned/would have the chance to watch some ATEEZ with your uncle? There’s “How do ATEEZ shoot their music stage?” which is 10mins and show them recording at a music show, so we see them directly interact with the fans there, and they also perform Halazia in between: https://youtu.be/-zl1DSNIVrg Or I was also thinking that a Vlive would be nice. There’s this one with just Hongjoong, Seonghwa and San: https://youtu.be/iHmjXSOjDbA I love their dynamic in there and it’s also one of the rare Vlives that’s under 20 mins (well, technically they had already been live for like 30mins before this, but the connection broke and they had to restart a new stream)

Delphine

My biggest gripe is with the industry itself + general public (particularly the west)– they equate the two bands, when they couldn't be more different in all aspects. Their only commonality is that they're from Korea, and they're big names. BTS has a near **200+** song discography, self-written about societal issues and personal struggles, their choreo is very advanced + dynamic/intricate, they built themselves GROUND up from a bankrupt basement startup, and continue to voluntarily produce solo work on the side. I don't follow BP, but what I do know is that they started with a big, wealthy label, have *<30* songs total that they source out writers for, don't really partake in the writing/producing process, mainly make lighthearted hype songs for party vibes, and their choreo is more simple/tiktok-y than about advanced/complex dance skills. Somehow both being Korean is enough for the west to say they're comparable. I don't mean to put one over the other, I'm just saying what they do as bands/their career goals are VASTLY different– apples and oranges. They can both be successful in their own lanes, but I wish people would stop comparing/equating them. And the fanwars calling for personal attacks on the artists themselves are unnecessary. And yes– the kpop fans who hate on BTS and constantly try to discredit their impact + history making, and what they've done to open the doors for ALL acts LIKE BP.. bother me to no end.

Oh nice, I meant to check out this episode since I was wondering about seeing Jisoo on her own but hadn't had the chance yet! I've only seen a bit of Blackpink off stage but I did get the sense that Jisoo seems to be a pretty easygoing person that can act silly when she feels comfortable, and I was very curious of what’d be her dynamic with YoungJi. I’m pleasantly surprised to see how well she matched her energy, it was a really fun episode. I also haven’t really seen a competitive side to her so far, though I rarely saw her in shows where there would be a competitive element to it that’s to take with a grain of salt, but a lot that she says here also felt like she wouldn’t be. She strikes me as more of the type to go with the flow and is also content with where she is, while still being open to opportunities (like doing her solo, or even coming to this show on her own).

Delphine

You should check out Seventeen Hoshi’s episode! Or she recently made an episode with Seventeen’s Joshua and DK if you wanna see that. Otherwise Going Seventeen Finding Kwon Soonyoung is a fun time if you wanna check out some Going Seventeen stuff😊

Elina

Court V
