August 2021 Newsletter
Added 2021-08-09 15:20:05 +0000 UTCHello there! It's August, the Cursed Month, known only to the few who can peer behind the veil and into the Second Domain of Months.
Big news this month! We've just launched a new store over at TeePublic, and you can go there to buy some remixed old merch (like the Ranged Touch logo shirt) or some new cool stuff like a Do It For Steve shirt and a very neat Year 1 poster we commissioned for Just King Things.
We did that, of course, because Just King Things is one year old this month! We've made a lot of episodes, and you all seem to enjoy them. Thanks for listening and supporting and remember: we don't do any advertising, so if you like the show and want it to grow, please tell other people about it! Linking it on social media with a few words about why you like the show really and seriously moves the bar for us!
This month our regular episode is on 1982's The Gunslinger, which launches what will become The Dark Tower, and the bonus episode is on 1995's The Mangler. We have a truly great time in both of these episodes, as each of them are stone cold bangers in their own ways, and we hope you like listening as much as we liked recording.
There will be a special main feed bonus episode in a couple weeks where we answer your Year One questions. It is extremely long!
Last month's Game Studies Study Buddies was a whirlwind of interesting stuff. We read Mary Ann Buckles' 1985 dissertation on early interactive fiction, and we had a great time working through some implications that her theory of interactive fiction has for us today. Listen to that here. Our next book will be T.L. Taylor's Play Between Worlds.
Too Much Future continues with Fallout New Vegas. We've picked factions, and now we're exploring the wasteland with their ideas in mind. Check it out.
Mages & Murderdads has finished Disco Elysium with a massive reflection episode on both the base game and The Final Cut. Ultimately, everyone involved is a little tired of talking about Disco Elysium, and we're ready to get along to our next game: Icewind Dale. Give us a few weeks to record and then we'll be back to posting biweekly.
Thanks again to everyone who came out to support us on our Prepare to Give III stream during July. We were able to raise more than $17,000 for the Sylvia Rivera Law Project, and we could not be happier that we could play video games in an increasingly delirious state to support such an important organization. There's no monthly podcast this month because we took up all our time doing the stream, but you can watch the VOD (Part 1, Part 2).
And finally: we hit our goal to do the Homestuck show! Thanks to everyone who is reading this, because your continued support has gotten us here and helps make the long hours of reading and research (and seriously, Michael has done some research) possible. I'm pleased to say that the first episode of Homestuck Made This World will debut (hopefully, if nothing breaks) August 20th and the show will post every two weeks from there. Here's the podcast art:

That's all for this month! Thanks for supporting us here at Ranged Touch!
