yes originally GD and Taeyang were supposed to debut as a hip hop duo. they were really upset initially when they found out they’d be adding members and becoming an idol group instead. they were both childhood friends and wanted to be “real artists” together, not “idols”, since there was a heavy distinction between the two in SK at the time. GD personally invited TOP to audition to join the group as he was also his childhood friend, and daesung was added as well
