Equipment List

Since this a very popular question i thought i'll start off my new Masterclass Light tier with a list including all equipment that i use on my shoots.

A lot of people say this and i have the same opinion about it - it doesn't matter which equipment you use - BUT it is very important to learn which differences cameras, lenses or light can make and how you should use them.

So this is the equipment i use:

Camera: Sony A7III

Lense: Sigma Art 24-70mm F2.8

Light: Profoto D2 1000W + Octa Softbox RFi 3' (90cm)

Other: Neewer Batterygrip , Profoto Air Remote TTL

Why do i use Sony?

My first (semi-pro) camera was the Sony A6000 which i took on a 1 month vacation to Australia back in 2016. I started watching tutorials on youtube about the use of the Sony menu and picked it up really quick and i am happy about the usability every since. Also I used this camera for my first year in people photography and i still think the "small" Sony cameras are perfect to get started!

Why do i use the Sigma 24-70mm?

When i made the step from the Sony A6000 to the Sony A7II i first bought a Sony GM 85mm F1.4 lense which was a huge investment by that time but my goal was to shoot beautiful portraits and head shots so i decided this was the prefect lense for me. But after a few months of portaiture i found my passion for nude art and soon i realized i needed a more flexible lense. By that time i already started working in product photography and a collegue of mine used the Sigma 24-70mm on his Canon 6D which i sometimes borrowed. I realized this lense gives me the freedom to shoot full body shots without weird distortion and perfectly sharp 3/4 portraits at ≈50-70mm. So that's why i said earlier before it's important to understand which kind of equipment would be best for your stlye of photography, beacuse i surely took some time before i found my perfect fit (for now 😉)

Why do i use Profoto?

Simply beacuse the company i worked for used Profoto and i entered studio photography with the (in my opinion) best product on the market so i really didn't want to downgrade here. The technical information on the D2 for example is just crazy -> read more here. Also most of all big rental studios use Profoto so it will be easier in the future to adapt to their equipment or rent something new.

If you have any further questions regarding my equipment i am happy to help ✌🏻
