Cartoons! - and they still are, but in particular back then were Fleischer Studios' crazy inventor "Grampy," and their 1940s super-slick Superman cartoons: they aired only occasionally, but when they did my brother and I went nuts because they were just so exciting and fantastic-looking compared to anything else being shown at the time.
