My Cage "Classic" 09/17/2009

If there is an afterlife, what do you hope (not think, hope) it would be like?

Also, to lighten things up, what your favorite fruit? :D

Grapes. Fermented, specifically... :D

Yer pal Mikey

I don't usually salt watermelon, but if I am eating cantaloupe and it isn't sweet enough, I use a little salt (which sweetens things by opening up more taste buds). If the cantaloupe still isn't sweet, I put pepper on it and pretend it is squash. :)

Yeah. Not really a fan myself. Below is from the Post and Courier Free Times. (It confirms my suspicion that this is more of a southern thing.) "Due to watermelon's low salt content, when you sprinkle salt on the fruit, it draws all of the watermelon's sweet liquid to the top, creating a surplus of flavor around the point where the salt hits the fruit. Salt on watermelon has been a long-time tradition in the South." https://www.postandcourier.com/free-times/food/diving-into-the-south-s-obsession-with-salt-on-watermelon/article_e233f1df-7f41-5c8d-b618-83193048e083.html#:~:text=Due%20to%20watermelon's%20low%20salt,time%20tradition%20in%20the%20South.

I have never heard of that before. No offense, but it sounds...unappealing.

I think C S Lewis's book "The Great Divorce" is a metaphorically reasonable depiction of the afterlife. Watermelon. (Haven't thought of this in years, but when I was a kid and spent summers with relatives down near Norfolk, VA, and they had watermelon, they used to sprinkle salt on it. I have tried it, but never developed a taste for it. Does anyone know why or how salt is supposed to enhance the taste? Just curious. Also have wondered if I was just being punk'd. )
