"Seeing attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion, c-beams glittering in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate." (Or maybe just travel back to 1930 or so and watch my dad watch Babe Ruth play ball in Yankee Stadium.)

Not long ago I read of a concert back in Beethoven's day where two of his symphonies were performed - and then Beethoven himself came onstage and improvised music on the piano! No recording back then, no way to have preserved it, an entirely ephemeral performance that was only heard by the people present that very one time. I would love to go back there and see/hear him create that music. (Maybe I'd smuggle some sort of recording device to bring that performance back for the modern world to hear!)

The premier of a classic like "The Barber of Seville" or "William Tell", so I could experience Rossini personally conducting, for the first time ever, future Bugs Bunny cartoon music.

I've thought about traveling back to various alleged miracles, but if they didn't happen as such, they'd be anticlimactic and might not even count as "historic events." So I'd better choose a confirmed moment that was exciting and not tragic. Maybe the first successful Wright Bros. flight.
