My first time in the ICU -- yeah, there's been more than one time -- was in 1990, and I was on a ventilator for 3 days. I remember NOTHING. I was very religious back then. Apparently, I made the nurse give me a notepad, and I asked for a priest for Last Rites (I had stage III cancer at the time). He came, and I wrote out my confession so I could be absolved of my sins, so I could go to heaven if I died on the ventilator. The priest came to visit me a few days later on the oncology ward. He assured me he had destroyed my confession notes. He said I had seemed very coherent. I couldn't remember ANY of it.

2024-07-06 03:51:48 +0000 UTCI was very combative during my Wisdom Teeth removal. I was in my mid thirties when I had the operation. My neighbor behind me was the anesthesiologist. I had never had gas or any anesthesia before, and the gas made me very anxious. When I woke up I had a split lip, abrasions on my hands, and was restrained. I’m feisty. Lol

2024-07-05 02:27:30 +0000 UTCI'm an Emergency Medicine doc and so I pretty frequently (two or three times a week) put people under for manipulations of nasty fractures, dislocations, etc.. I'd usually use something like Propofol which essentially does what you guys described - switches off the consciousness. But the real fun happens when we use Ketamine - that'll put you in another dimension. The stories I can tell about Ketamine are mental. One lad forgot he had hands. Another thought he was a racecar. A 60-year-old assumed a ballerina pose and insisted he was in the Royal Ballet. A young lady had a conversation with a whale. Someone spent the time sitting on a park bench in Paris talking to his girlfriend about how she should leave him and hook up with someone else. The list goes on and on and on. It's absolutely wild stuff!

2024-07-04 12:04:11 +0000 UTCAnti-woke water is a double grift: 1. It's tap water (Penn & Teller did an episode about this on Bullshit). 2. It's grifting rightwing "patriotism," charging more than the price of gas. Toilet paper is next. Patriot Paper! Comes in 13-roll packs, 1 for each original colonies. 50 sheets per roll. Each sheet contains various Americana: 1st Amendment 2nd Amendment a flag (confederate or American) jesus a bald eagle tRump the bible or a rifle. Show your resistance to tyranny. You mean business when you're doing your business. When you wipe, always swipe right. Don't be a centrist or a lefty.

2024-07-04 10:15:48 +0000 UTCAnaesthesia comment. I recently broke my tibia and fibula and had a tibial nail fitted. Talking to the surgeon I asked, “why is it called a nail and not a pin or rod etc?” He thought for a sec and said, “Probably due to all the hammering involved” And that's when the anaesthesia set in. My last thought was a of a guy casually mentioning all the hammering involved in my newly broken leg.

2024-07-04 03:08:07 +0000 UTCI've never been under anesthesia, but I sleep walk and talk. My ex would tell me about our convos the next day, and he recorded it once so I could see and watching myself was super creepy.
