I don’t know if it’s common but in my local library, since I can remember, has always had a huge table full of “banned” books that had a big sign saying “banned books”. Even though IL has made book bans illegal I hope they still do this bc every one should read them.

So much so that they are currently in a long term residential mental health facility after several suicide attempts at school. When I went to see the principal, he basically told me to go fuck myself and that I “should consider yourself lucky I still let your child in my school w/ all the problems they cause” (Having the ambulance come to assist my unresponsive child is a “problem”). I live in a very conservative rural area of central Minnesota. There are some small community supports but those in “power” here, administrators, police, school boards, city council, etc are all maga idiots that hate queer kids. And it shows in the school.

2024-03-03 22:33:53 +0000 UTCHey as a kid who was bullied right after Columbine--there was definitely a period in time when the kids who were the targets of bullies were treated like ticking time bombs. Some administrations took their sweet time thinking to prevent the bullying first instead of putting kids like me in an in-school suspension after I had been bullied and I vented my frustration. Thankfully it IS better now from what I see. But the growing pains were definitely felt.
