My Cage "Classic" 07/12/2007

When released, our syndicate King Features, advertised the strip as it's first "manga inspired" comic strip. We got a lot of flack from people on the internet that misquoted it as the first ever "manga inspired" or first manga comic strip. I knew calling it that was going to be trouble no matter what.

Originally run July 12th 2007.

I hate it too. I've seen some cartoonists bold every word that might realistically be stressed, but this is just distracting. It's strange enough that comics are about the only medium where it's common to use all caps all the time, supposedly because that facilitates reading. My best guess is that it has to do with tiny printing in modern newspapers. (I do it in my own webcomic, mainly out of tradition.)

King Features told us to bold every few words to "help the reader's eye follow the wording". We hated it and after a few months, we stopped. -Ed

They should've promoted it as the first furry comic strip, but we weren't quite mainstream enough for them to take that chance. (The public perception of Furry is gradually getting better, but we still have a ways to go.)

What's with the bolding? It looks random.
