Episode 455: Criminal Injustice PART 1

Comments

For the record, I don't think anyone would have a problem with you dropping a 3 hour episode, per your comment in the beginning of 455. Great episode though. About to move to the second part right away.

Hidin' from Broseidon Biden

When people use this argument, they are not referring to the dollar cost of killing someone; yes, we could do that very cheaply, assuming we wanted to officially become an autocratic fucking hellscape. Rather than unofficially. Anyway, the costs result from the long, repetitive appeals process. Which we want, or, again, hellscape.

Not trying to troll here, but I honestly don't understand why people use "it's more expensive to put them to death than keep them alive" argument. It's easily countered with a variety of inexpensive ways to kill someone compared to how we're currently doing it. So I'm not sure why that point continues to be presented.

Tankard

Great episode and spot-on commenters as well.

Danna Wheeldon

I worked in the prison system here in Hawaii for 11 years. We have no death penalty. I would not have been able to work there otherwise. I had to deal with murderers and sex offenders. As heinous as their crimes, I wouldn't want to see one of them die. Also, it cost three times the money to put someone to death than to house them for life. I prefer they disappear into prison life and we move on. Otherwise we'll hear about them for years through appeals.
