While, yes, we still hope to do our ‘My Cage’ spin-off webcomic ‘Cute Force!’ (see https://www.patreon.com/posts/2895144 and https://www.patreon.com/posts/2982253), truth is the time constraints right now are too great for us to do it the way we want to right now.
So, we decided our 3rd project together is going to by entering the Nickelodeon
Shorts Program:

The project we’re pitching? Well, for right now we’re naming it “Chopper, Hops, and Bittercup” after the short’s three main characters, but if we are lucky enough for it to ever get picked up, we’d come up with a name more inclusive of the total idea for the show (for the shorts, Nick is more interested in characterization than in the extended plot, the idea being good characters can be funny in any situation).
That said, let me introduce you to the short’s lead characters, Chopper, Hops,
and Bittercup. First with the sketch I above I did of the characters (I should point out
here, this is Ed writing and not Melissa, which is why the characters aren’t up
to par with Mel’s art :D ) and now for the character descriptions:
Chopper: Chopper is a bunny born with only one leg, which started rumors at an
early age that it was his lucky rabbit’s foot he was born without. In spite of
this, or most likely due to it, Chopper refuses to let this slow him down. To
the contrary, he gets around by flying via spinning his ears around like
helicopter blades and does every stupid thing that pops into his head, no matter
how dangerous or illogical, facts made even more harrowing by the fact that,
whether by self fulfilling prophesy or not, Chopper is every bit as unlucky and
accident prone as the rumors about him assumed. Playful, mischievous, and
exceedingly loyal to anyone who joins in his adventures with him, Chopper is
the embodiment of bored children everywhere looking for adventure!
Hops: Hops the frog is a complete space cadet! He is also Chopper’s
bestie. With a brain like a hyperactive fly with buzzing around in his skull, Chopper’s
bigger than life plans are the only thing that can hold Hops’ attention for
more than a few seconds, hence anchoring the ADHD-riddled amphibian. Because
Chopper is his beacon back to reality, Hops feels an almost pet-like sense of loyalty
to his one legged friend and considers himself Chopper’s protector as much as
his partner in crime.
Bittercup: Bittercup calls herself a ‘nonconformicorn’ due to her nigh methodologically sized sense of rebellion. Always the smartest creature in the room, it all to often falls upon her to be the voice of reason in stupid situations, which just so happen to be Chopper and Hops’ specialty! While being the show’s ‘deadpan snarker’, she is no Squidward. As well as being Chopper’s roommate, she is his cousin and loves him (and his idiot frog friend), and hanging out with them. She just wishes they would think before they act so that she can stop doing it for them and allow her the chance to veg on the coach and eat ‘unicorn chips’ for the day.
Attached is the script we’ll be working off of just in case you want to read
it, and we’ll being posting our progress her over the next 2 weeks as we reach
the program’s entry deadline of April 15th.
Again, I’m really hoping to show you what goes into us pitching a project, and
hopefully will inspire some of you to work on your own projects as we show you
that rejection isn’t that bad. It’s a necessary evil if you want to get your work out there, and should not be feared.
Wish us luck! :D
