Upcoming Changes to Weapon Rules

The upcoming weapons rules overhaul focuses on a simplified and more intuitive approach to range. Each weapon category now has a clearly defined “effective range” and “maximum range,” making it easier for players to quickly see how far their shots can travel before incurring penalties.

For instance, pistols, shotguns, and SMGs remain deadly up to 8 inches, while assault rifles and heavy weapons maintain solid stopping power up to 16 inches. Sniper rifles, drones, and machine weapons take advantage of the longest effective range—up to 32 inches—beyond which they move into maximum range territory. Special rules round out these updates by accounting for unique weapon capabilities, such as pistols being deployable in close combat, ensuring each firearm retains its distinctive role while promoting smoother gameplay and clearer tactical choices.

With the changes this is feeling more like a new edition in all honesty.

Reminds me of how Infinity and D&D does their weapon ranges tbh. Cool to see. Heavy Gear did a change to their weapon ranges where the ranges were similar but the max range was Infinite just good luck hitting anything with the penalties. Alot of it was because it was a futuristic game and had Sensor Suites and such to accommodate the futuristic weapons.
