Good point, Neil. Would be nice to have the gaming features available separately so I can piece together my own solution.

I don' see these as a music headphone, they are really gaming and movies. For me at least, I would use a pair of headphones meant for 2 channel audio listening when its about just music. One size fits all solutions always lead to compromise somewhere in my view,

I really wanted to like these. I have LCD-Xs, Sines, and iSines and they're great. But on the Mobius, I thought the 1 watt/channel internal amp would be enough for me but it's underpowered for the poor efficiency of the planar drivers. And since there's no way to use them in a passive (non-powered) mode I had a hard time getting them to work with an external amp without distortion. (Audeze in a communication to Mobius owners recently advised against using these in wired mode at all.). I wonder why they couldn't have just included a bypass circuit so that when used wired the internal electronics could be defeated. In comparison, I like my Audeze Sines without the Cypher cable way better than the Mobius for music. The metal build on the Sines is better than the Mobius plastic too. That said, the active 3D soundfield is very convincing. When I first powered them up and played them, I thought the sound was coming from my computer. I had to pull them off my head to confirm.

Great review. It would be worth noting as well that when connected via USB and set up right, movies are also really great. I have a pair and I agree that there is a confusing and awkward amount of tech on board although you get used to it. That said for a headphone that, as you say, may compare to the LCD-XC and with really great gaming and surround capability, the early bird price is certainly a good deal. It would have been nice though if Audeze had added some preset options to configure your settings at the touch of a button for each usage scenario...or maybe I just have not found that yet!
