Z Review - FiiO FH5 IEM's

Comments

I have it here.

ZeosPantera

Fiio has another IEM out. Do you think you might give them a review at some point? https://www.fiio.com/fa7

Neil Meschke

The Massdrop Plus are the most comfortable IEMs I’ve ever tried but sound bloated to my ears.

MD+ are fun

Skedra

I've heard the DM6, it's gooood.

Skedra

I am also extremely interested in the Massdrop Plus IEMs. Those are $300 with a similar signature. And American made with Danish Sonion drivers. Sonion makes drivers that are used in some of the highest end and most well regarded IEMs.

$260 plus shipping and they're yours. I don't have the original box, but Itll come with 3 cables, xlr, quarter and 3.5. I'll also throw in the bestintheverse y splitter (2 old school Hifiman connectors to 1 female 3.5mm). The headphones are in great condition. 3 pairs of pads, including originals and hm5s

Jan Miller

Awesome! I'm sure it will be a WHHHile before you review them, but I'll be looking forward to your thoughts. Thanks, Z!

$260? for HE-500? I might have a new home for them...

Joined the Massdrop on the DM6. See how that goes.

ZeosPantera

You da best!

It is within the realm of possibility. I will do some more research.

ZeosPantera

Try the BGVP DM6 or DMG. The DMG is said to equal or surpass the FH5 for far less money ($114 on Massdrop, $139 on Amazon). The DM6 is said to surpass the Empire Ears Bravado, and is equal to the Sony Ex1000 in ear, which is getting harder to find, and lists for almost $1000. DM6 is $169 on Massdrop. Please, Z...get these 2 iem's and review them and compare them to the FH5.

Oh... Sheeeet

ZeosPantera

Ok, going to sell my HE-500s and get them. Anyone want a pair of HE-500s in good condition for $260?

Jan Miller

Different sound. Closed vs Open. But I'd probably take these 2/3 times

ZeosPantera

How are they compared with the isine?

Damage? Dental Mage General?

ZeosPantera

Now forward this to the Youtube comments so Pubies know how awesome you are to see it first.

ZeosPantera

I thought it was the DMG that was really good?

Compared to the ER4SR they don’t have that black and white definition, they do however have comfort unlike the ER’s. Both RHA t10/20 don’t hold a candle to these in terms of build quality and sound production. These give detail on a wide soundstage that sounds fun...the ER’s don’t sound fun(for a good reason. They aren’t supposed to). I’ll just say everything being pushed out of these create an ocean of clear resonating delicious candy (and it’s candy because saying chocolate would bring back memories of Shure iems that sound like you stuck dense foam over the ports). Don’t get me started on Lullaby by A perfect circle to demonstrate the capabilities of bass production with these btw... These...Theeeeeeeeeeeze. These are probably my endgame unless they make a Fiio fh10 with even better clarity while keeping that fun feeling. Although at this price it amazes me how much detail you can cherry pick out a top notch recording job be it orchestral or literally any studio recording. Lastly. For the money these could make you fall in love with music (if you’ve never come to this price range) or least enjoy yourself especially if you aren’t willing to spend 500 or more to get something slightly better. (I need to be more concise and not use fun as much...but these fuckers are fun)

Ok guys, you win. I just had a salad for lunch. Happy now?

Theeeeeze! You really need to check out all the Chi-fi IEMs that are coming out now. Get ahold of Linsoul. Chris (Bad Guy, Good Audio) loves these: https://www.massdrop.com/buy/bgvp-dm6-iem

The redness of the tomato was like the crispness of the lettuce with a hint of bacon. Overall a warm and tasty experience.

This one should work: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-LZ-A4-A3-A3S-Dedicated-Cable-2-5mm-Balanced-MMCX-Cable-8-core-6N/32816648105.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.c4624c4dug0fky

Native speaking the Audiophile language is never a good thing. Make it up as you go.

ZeosPantera

Hey Z, if you like that cable, try this one I found on AliExpress: Look what I found on AliExpress https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/uYTnspa. Best cable I’ve ever seen, dead pin straight, very comfortable, well built. I have them on my favorite IEMs ever: the Massdrop Universal Plus, which I think is an IEM you should try! I’ve heard the AF180, was loaned it for a good while, and while I haven’t heard the two side-by-side, the MD+ is the one that I own.

Say not sparkling then, or not very dynamic, or any other term in that sense... (That was the point I wanted to make, I’m not native speaker).

Crispness? This is a lettuce review?

Opposite experience here. I could try the FiiO FH5 at a spanish audio show back in May, with my own music right from Mojo and HA-2. Bass is quite elevated and leaks a bit into mids. Vocals are very well resolved. Details in highs are ok, but highs lack crispness. Build quality and especially the cable are very very good. Comfort wasn’t so great for me (really big housings). I also own the AF-180 and prefer them over these, even though bass reproduction from purely BA drivers isn’t as realistic as that from a good dynamic one.

I bought the FH5's after listening to the Podcast where Zeos, Josh and DMS talked about them and Z called the "Baby Andromeda's". Given I had heard the Andromeda's at CanJam LA this year, I bought them immediately. I have never regretted a puchase less. I think this is one best audio products I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. I just couldn't believe the quality. Just outstanding. Thanks Z. Even though they might not be quite as good, the value is ridiculous.
