Z Review - THE miniDSP

Comments

Damn. I don't truly have a need, but ... but ... I do?

Same

Yes bit they are a bit special needs.

ZeosPantera

Are they good or naw?

ZeosPantera

Are those KEF Q350s or Q150s sitting upon the Ohms

Ordered.

The miniDSP 2x4 HD1 software is going to support I2S input and output which uses raw CD data and clocking data not running together. I think this device will take several 45 minute videos to show us how to setup and the the power. I am still trying to wrap my head around all this stuff this box can do.

There are also miniDSP's with 8 or more outputs. So you could have a 5.1 and turn it into a 5.8 all room corrected with timing fixed.. For like $400

ZeosPantera

Good argument. Agreed. Thank you.

You had me at 'it's science bitch!'

Could have up to 8 subs, with one DSP per Receiver LFE output..with a crapload of wireless kits!

I'm only halfway through this video. So lemme get this straight...my Receiver has 2 subwoofer outputs. If I wanted 4 subwoofers, I could hook both LFE outputs from my receiver into the DSP, just do a passthrough for outputs 1&2, and THEN, for outputs 3&4, have full and separate tuning capability? And then, for shits and giggles, hook up 2 Outlaw wireless kits to Outputs 3&4, so there's no ginormous LFE cables snaking all the way to the rear subs? Holy shit on a shingle, Batman :p

Arthritic Trigger Finger

I was actually offered to try the product but I do so much testing with so many cans I can't see trying to shoehorn corrections into ever single one. I like the snowflake approach to headphones and speakers. If you love how they sound why try to fix it. If you don't like how they sound by all means fix or replace. Its a slippery slope to follow.

ZeosPantera

I am going to contact miniDSP and start a dialog with someone that can answer all these questions. Because that thing would be a fucking TRIP if it just passed all audio through adjusted.

ZeosPantera

Well I was just looking at that unit. And I am not 100% sure how it works. Usually to decode DTS-HD or Dolby TrueHD you need expensive licensing and I don't see them showing that on the unit or page.

This is going to force me to rethink my "goal" A/V system. On a separate point...do have any experience with Sonarworks Headphone Correction Equalizing Software? I read about this $80 software in this month's Innerfideity Wall Of Fame. Do you think that SHCES can actually "tune" headphones?

So Z. Was looking at the nanoAVR HD for room corrections of a home theater. It needs uncompressed audio before sending corrections to my AV receiver to the speakers. Does this type of uncompressed audio exist commonly on videos downloaded from the internet or on Blu-ray a?

Pumped for this one.
