Z Review - Ohm Walsh 2000

Comments

Ok

If you watch this review I say how the center pointed tweeters make it so when you walk off-axis the speaker you are closer to fades and the opposite speaker appears more dominant. So it deals with the center issue as best as that system can.

Back to our discussion as per HT with these speakers. You mentioned you don't use or need a center for HT with the Ohm's. Thus your tutorial on HT which I watched you use an example if a person is sitting off center and watching HT in 5.1 or what ever the dialog will sound like it is coming to them via the speaker which they are closest too. With the Ohms I presume this will not be the case correct? Their imaging being how it is designed the dialog or any center focused sound will always present it self as coming in the center of the two speakers center without a center correct?

Hi Zeos, Yeah they are taking about 8 weeks to process they told me they will ship on the 19th of this month.

They usually make things as the orders come in. They are a bit slow but will deliver at some point.

ZeosPantera

Update. Does it take over two months to get an order from Ohm? I ordered my 3000 over two months ago paid in full and still haven't got a tracking number from them. They keep telling me they are still in production but should be shipping soon?

And that being said, do have a DAC which you prefer for music streaming and or CD to your system for this? I own a Arcam AVR850 which has a good DAC but am looking for the best sound utilizing digital format and was considering adding a DAC to accomplish this?

One more thing. Do you have a favorite as per music streaming? Tidal, Spotify, Pandora ect?

Awesome thanks again Zeos, I am going to test both ways but like you and John at Ohm stated most people like yourself state the center isn't really needed with this type of speaker design. I did hear an argument on this from a retailer stating, "Movies are designed around and mixed for the center channel dialog thus one would be defeating the process of performance of the mix for movies by not using a center and making the processor do this as per (virtual)". Do you find this to be a true statement even with the Ohm's? By the way, I had fun watching your girlfriend or lady friend do the walk around the other day of your apartment. Women see things so differently then us men! I got a kick out of how she viewed your enormous speaker and headphone collection and commented her likes as per more about how they look vs how they sound!

I mean my OHM's sound best when I am standing in front of them about 5' away and they are 10' apart. So it varies per person per room. Get them in there first and see what works.

ZeosPantera

The latter. I have added a center every now and then but usually the imaging is so good I don't bother. Plus the two OHM's can do more with that information then a single dinky center can.

ZeosPantera

They are still here. They are going to get a rather harsh review. They only work in a very specific orientation and it isn't going to work for many people at that price point.

ZeosPantera

One last question with your 2000 when watching movies do you use a center channel or do you just use the Ohm 2000 with your processor utilizing virtual center channel?

I was curious if you kept the micro surrounds from Ohm or did you send them back?

According to Ohm they thought being I don't need true hi fidelity while washing dishes which is in the kitchen which is about 30 feet away from the speakers it would be best to focus on the true listening area which I try to enjoy the music which is no more that 18 feet away from the speakers aka kitchen table.

I mean it is up to your room. If you went with the 3000's you must have a pretty big space. I'd probably aim for the 4000 or even something in a pair. Two subs are easier to tune in a huge room.

ZeosPantera

Ordered the Ohm 3000 same vaneer you sold me! Do you have a recomended sub for Home Theater for these? Considering a pair of SVS 4000, REL or building the Dayton Sub you built with the same Amp Thoughts?

Cool I think I will give them a try again and build a new system around them if they provide the fidelity I am looking for. I was really impressed with them back in the 1970-80's I bet I will be impressed with the improvements.

It is what I use. I love it. No going back

ZeosPantera

I owned a pair of 1980 Ohm Walsh twos and am looking for some new floor towers and considering these again but new ones. I like many have a home theater setup which is currently an old Klipsch Bookshelf 8" woofer, and a pair of old SW8 subs. Love your reviews, colorful but I believe you know what your talking about. I also am considering FOCAL towers, as well. Thoughts using the Ohms for an all around system for Home Theater and music listening?
