This really boils down to what you want from this project. If you want this to be a game with content first and foremost, basic systems should be a priority, especially ones that help define the core gameplay loop early on in it's development cycle. If all you want are the pretty assets like sex animations and art to generate passing interest but not lasting time with the game, focus the sprites and such. It's a difficult balancing act to achieve.
