Fan art - 72ɛ - Heroine

This is so not a timely reference anymore, but sometimes as an artist, you've just got random stuff you want/have to draw.

You may or may not be aware that I am a big Smash Bros fan and even bigger Dragon Quest fan.  So when Hero was announced for the roster for Smash Bros Ultimate, it was a big deal for me.  Everyone else was losing their minds over Banjo, and here I was feeling like the only person sobbing for joy about Hero. XD

The best and ironically worst part of how they presented Hero though, is that their series is showcased using four different protagonists throughout the series.  This is cool because I love the whole series immensely and every one of those characters is a treasure.  For my part as someone who plays Hero a lot, I tend to rotate between the four of them every time.  The only thing that bothers me - just a little - is that they picked all male protags, even though there are a few female ones.  It's a minor nitpick, I know, but stuff like this is important to me.

Sometime after the announcement and before the release of Hero, I had a dream where there was a last minute Echo Fighter revealed as well called Heroine.  While Hero would be the male leads of DQ 3, 4, 8, and 11, Heroine would represent the female protags of 3, 4, 9, and 10 (specifically those because they're the only ones in the mainline series that give the player a gender choice).  That was probably never a likely scenario.  But it's stuck with me, hence I drew this.  ^_^

For the record, if you're not at all familiar with this stuff, the green-haired one in my drawing is the female Hero from DQ4, and the black-haired one is the female Hero from DQ3.  In 3, the difference between the two genders is rather subtle, so I'm not surprised to see only one represented in the game.  But the DQ4 Heroes are quite different, and I'm genuinely a little surprised to see the male one in game (I always assumed he was the less popular alternative to her; at least in terms of design, I've always heard - and agreed - that he looks a little dull and typical, while she looks cool and unique.)

Again, it's a minor nitpick.  I can't stress enough that I still love Hero's inclusion no matter what form the character takes, and they're quickly becoming one of my most played characters.  That I even have four Heroes to choose from at all is more than I could have asked for.  It just seems a missed opportunity to me.  It's months after the fact now, but it's been on my mind enough to hope I could clear my head with this drawing.

Hopefully, now that Terry Bogard is announced for the near future, they won't miss that opportunity again and offer at least one alt costume for his own girl form.  ;P

Thank you, as always, for checking out my art and reading all this.  Especially if it's maybe not even your thing, I appreciate you indulging my need to fanart once in a while.  I may have a little more fanart I'd like to do soon, but I also have something more relevant to my usual content coming up (probably very soon).  So I hope you'll look forward to it all.  Until then, please have a lovely day, everyone!  ^_^

Also, this isn't really related to the exact point of the picture, but like an hour or two after posting this pic, I learned that Dragon Quest 1, 2, and 3 are coming to the Switch later this month. I've been bouncing around my apartment in utter bliss since finding out. I thought I'd pop in and say so since it's at least still Dragon Quest related and I just wanted an excuse to gush. XD

Hero was a great announcement for me. And I do feel like they missed a chance by not having 4 be the female variety, or having at least one of the final smash reps be female. It's a little frustrating, to be honest?
