MW - Maya Outfits

It's a weird time for me to post, but I hope that's not a problem for anyone.  Wasn't sure I was going to post this today.  But here we are, I guess.  XD

When I work on Rain, nine out of ten times, new outfits are made up on the spot.  New day, new chapter, not at school, so I'm like, "Er... let's give Emily a green shirt today!"  There are exceptions though.  Most longer chapters when I know I'll have to draw characters over and over again for a "long day" result in me planning ahead more, so that character designs are less boring to draw.  Chapter 6, 22, and 28 are all pretty notable for this, and I think generally look a lot better for it.

I'm trying to be better about this going forward though.  For later in Rain, of course, but especially for future stuff like Moonlight Wanderers or Magical.  Today, I wanted showcase a few of Maya's looks in Moonlight Wanderers though.

For most of what I've shown thus far, Maya is typically donning the initial "Moon" outfit (which I'm calling for its similarity to the default design of the female player character in the game).  It's oversimplified and falls into that plainer look you'd probably be used to from me, but it's recognizable.  I wouldn't be surprised if people can pick out Maya solely on the notion that she's the one in the yellow shirt.  But she won't always wear that.

For instance, she also has the Shaymin shirt outfit (named for the Pokemon design on it).  It really is just another t-shirt and shorts look basically.  But the added touches like the shirt design or the fraying on her shorts is honestly so much more fun to draw, and hopefully more interesting to look at.

While I would probably classify Maya as being more of a tomboy, I think the sporty skirt still works for her.  Something fun and feminine, but not restrictive, as she'll still need that mobility for hiking and adventuring (so don't expect her to don dressier stuff like Rain or anything).

All three of these designs are loosely inspired by actual outfits the player can choose to wear in game.  And all are selected with the intent of making sure the tattoo on her thigh is visible (it's important to her).  I show her doing her hair differently in each one, but I'd like her to mix and match her hairstyles with different outfits.   Though the purple part will pretty much always be the same.  No matter how much her design may otherwise change from time to time, it's basically what keeps Maya, well... Maya.  (Though maybe it'll be dyed different colors from time to time?  I don't know yet.  Input is welcome on this.)

Furthermore, there may be more outfits than this.  The game's adventure is broken up between four islands, so the original idea was essentially giving her one outfit for every island signifying different parts of her adventure.  But I haven't totally settled on whether I should do that or just have her change with every new day, meaning there could be use for more.  (Thoughts and input are welcome!)

Finally, I wanted to mention the "Sun" pajamas separately, as they're mostly there for overnight (well, when she sleeps anyway).  While the Moon outfit is based off the female player option, the Sun pajamas are technically based off the male one.  But it's less about them being masculine, and more about being looser fitting for comfier rest.  I also gave her a Gourgeist plushie to sleep with.  Any excuse to include one of my very favorite Pokemon that wouldn't naturally have any reason to appear in the story.

As I said, going forward, there will probably more like this for the other main kids in MW (namely all the ones shown here) who will also all change their clothes from time to time.  Other characters... I'm not sure yet.  I haven't decided if I want to get that crazy.  Few other human characters will probably be seen as often as them after all.

And that's that for today.  As always - but especially today since I asked a couple times - input and/or questions are welcome.  Even if you don't say anything, I hope you at least enjoyed this.

Also, in case you missed it, I got tagged for an OC Meme on DeviantArt where I was to answer a series of questions AS one of my characters.  For this, I chose Maya, and she offers a little bit of new information about herself and her backstory that I haven't otherwise gone into much.  (Originally, this image was meant to post alongside it, but it wasn't ready yet at the time.)  But do check it out here, if you're interested.  ^_^

Clothing! Yay! It's a really good idea to plan outfits, I think. As for more than four outfits? I have no idea...more outfits means more things to practice drawing though.
