DK AFTERSHOW 0104 (Megagroups dating, Dispatch / New Year concert / Bighit Japan)

I think that the Mega-couple are Jimin and Seulgi + there was a dating rumor about them, but SM and Bighit didn't respond to the rumors

Naela

From the Mega-Couple, no shade but I think it’s TWICE member, Jeongyeon (and she plays the guitar) from David’s comment how the girl is too masculine appearing, before it was Amber who was masculine looking. If it’s going to break the Internet in a bad way it’s definitely a BTS member, but I can’t think of another mega-group male idol beside them that’ll break records on tweets. Yet, I don’t think it’s Jin even if he does plays the guitar. I’ll figure out with all the hints and information provided.

I just wanna say, these controversial topics are why we follow DKDKTV. I think they deal with them in a relatively objective and honest manner. Unfortunately, people don't always agree with how they deal with topics BUT it's their channel. Besides, they didn't confirm anything really. These types of rumours have been floating around for ages on different platforms. I'm also apologetic to DKDKTV as we don't fully realise the cultural and historical contexts as relative newbies and outsiders. We are learning though💜

Danny: "...work like a f' dog" David's dog: *contentedly licking David's hand while being snuggled*

jeanbee

that said, i completely agree with dave's predictions for the new jp group formed from previous i-land contestants, and regardless of how talented the members are nor how rich and wiling to spend jp consumers are, they will not get to shine to the extent they would have, had they been based in korea.

jeanbee

some pennies (aka thoughts) on danny's prediction that kpop companies are trying to expand their jpop revenue streams, based on his thinking that jpop is going to explode- -unless they somehow change the weird trade/copyright barriers that exist btw jp content and the world, i highly doubt jpop will ever reach kpop's peaks. a simple example of this is whenever bts appears on any jp tv show, you can never find that content accessible on yt like you would for most korean tv shows. whatever is available is uploaded by stans, without subtitles, in 480p or less quality, or subtitled in bits and pieces by k-armys on twt. but you never rlly get to watch and read subtitles for the full thing in hq. personally the only jp content i tend to consume are the tour/fanmeet dvds BH releases since i know i will be able to watch in HQ with subtitles. -(oh ok, i got to the part where david already covered the copyright barriers that limit any significant growth of jpop content, lol) - and yes kpop is all the rage rn and it seems like a red ocean but i feel like that is opening up more and more ways global fans can more easily access it but i still see lots of kpop stans from diff countries (esp in europe) complaining that they can't easily buy albums (not even merch or some of the more limited fan-related purchases) in their own countries. so as red ocean as it may seem in the US (not true imo), there's still room for growth.

jeanbee

i completely agree, it disappoints me a lot to see dk use their platform and connections to violate idols privacy like this and i heavily question the morals of their friend and that idol who is spreading personal information about a peer. and question how reliable that information would be given their clear lack of integrity. overall very disappointed in dkdktv for it.

Ugh! The more I think about this after show the more frustrated I get. The amount of time spent discussing and speculating who a possible couple could be. I get it, I guess. People want to know things, but people wanting to know something doesn't entitle them to that information. When Idols or celebs make statements or songs defending their humanity, rights to privacy, etc. it's all "Go off King/Queen!" "Tell 'em!" When an Idol or celeb loses their life due to the hardships and struggles they've faced (in many cases from the media and the public) it's all "Idols are humans too!" "Leave them alone!" That is until the end of the year when people are begging for the next couple to get exposed by dispatch. Or until those idols looks particularly good in that stalker paparazzi/sasaeng photos. Or where they live or who their friends and family are gets exposed. Or when the location of a private vacation gets expose... Maybe these seem like small things, and maybe they would be if it were a singular occurrence, but it isn't. There is no idol/actor/celeb who experiences this only once, and it would be delusional to think so. It's all these "little" invasions of privacy, these "singular" hate comments, these "singular" attacks compounded with every other "little" invasion", every other "singular" hate comment, "singular" attack, that can lead to someone in a vulnerable state to make a decision that can't be taken back and there's no way to know who is and isn't vulnerable. It's all fun and games when we know it'll never be us in that position, when we get to decide how much of a private life someone else is entitled to from the anonymity of an internet account. I don't know anyone heres real name, address, phone number, where they work, what car they drive, their sexual identity, their relationship status and that's how it should be. Side Note: I don't trust any idol/celeb who would out another couple to someone else knowing full well that they're in the same boat. I mean, whoever the first couple member was told that info to someone who couldn't be trusted not to tell it to someone else, who then went on to hint it to their entire viewership.

Hana Park

same I think jisoo and Jimin since the only names mentioned in the chat are Jimin rose and jisoo last. Danny confirmed and laugh when Jimin and rose appear he said for the 2 couple the name was mentioned but he will not say which said then David said he is heartbroken the chat said jisoo then he said ohh they are good detective. also I think rose is from the first couple the one with band member Danny also said big hit insider confirmed so it bts and when they mentioned vocal he said they are few so she definitely not a dancer so I though a few mean a small members gg

N’ non

I'm late but after watching the live, here's my prediction on the second couple: Jimin and Jisoo - both groups have members who play the guitar (Rose in Blackpink and in In The Soop a few members of BTS were playing the guitar -> DKDKTV will know this because they have seen BP's documentary and In The Soop) - Both BP and BTS are mega groups and "on the same level in their respective tears" -> from their description it was implied that the news would be bigger than Jennie and Kai, so it's highly likely to be BTS - They are both from the vocal line (but girl is not as obviously in the vocal line because they weren't immediately sure) - options now: Jimin, Jungkook, Jin, Taehyung & Jisoo, Jennie, Rose -> unlikely to be Rose since you wouldn't question if she's in the vocal line (since it's very obvious) - The guy used to have a masculine image as a rookie but now has a feminine image -> this is very obviously Jimin, no question -> can't be any other member of BTS -> Jungkook + V have become more masculine instead and Jin has a similar image as before -> Jimin, on the other hand, fits this description spot on and is well-know for this change in his image - Danny also mentioned that by this time one of the members had been mentioned in the chat -> Jimin had been mentioned several times - Danny mentioned that the girl is definitely not in the dance line -> Jisoo is not and has gotten quite a lot of criticism for her dancing - David said that the girl is more masculine in some ways than the guy -> Jisoo and Lisa are viewed as the most masculine in BP (Jisoo also has a deeper voice) but it can't be Lisa, which leaves Jisoo - Little after Jisoo's name was mentioned in the chat for the first time, Danny said that both names have been mentioned in the chat - The reason why I left Twice out is because no members of Twice check all these boxes + were mentioned in the chat Sorry for the long and unstructured message.

I wasn't able to join the live stream but as a Japanese, I just wanted to agree with David that most of the English lyrics/pronunciation in Jpop songs are totally unfriendly to international listners. JPOP stubbornly sticks with Japanese accent because that's so much easier for majority of people to listen to and sing along.(until a certain point, being sung at Karaoke was important for JPOP songs) I think that Japanese music industry never intended to have an international market for a long time because we thought that we already had a decent amount of customers domestically- so why try hard to go globally. I guess this is like a mentality that Japanese people have been growing in this small island for such a long time. And finally Japan are starting to realize that all the other world, especially KPOP have been unting and gaining global fans and being loved while all Japan cared about was what people inside this small island wanted, which was something not easy to be understood by international audiences.... (one of the few expection that I can think of is Utada Hikaru, obviously her background effected her career I think)

Eika Y

of all the after show's to miss i can't believe this is the one i missed. great after show. please just let us know a little more in advance so i can set the alarm. As for the kpop/jpop part - i think part of it is how closely japan controls their exports. also i think someone said that jpop is more geared toward the japanese audience rather than a more international audience and i agree on that.

Cathy

I'm sorry to hear that. I had 0 tech issues and even played it on 4k and HD on different devices on the same time. You were suppose to go through the venewlive.com on internet browser. I had a little issue when it was the rebroadcast though.

LD

Who’s the mega group couple?!

Laura

I'm glad I purchased the lower tier but definitely thought this show was more about the money than a typical bts performance. Also having it streamed through weverse gave me all sorts of problems. I even missed the a portion of the last song due to all the tech issues.

Megan

But really, I wonder how SM paid for this free concert. I really hope they paid their artists for their time. Not slave labor.

LD

The issue of the cost of a concert really rubs me the wrong way. Do you know how many people behind the scenes has to work hard and for how many hours? Not only are there people needed for stage, sound, production, but also all the people who edit and help broadcast. How do you think they got paid?? Where did that money come from?

LD

Thank you for mentioning some of these points. They really made it feel like the concert showcased each artist or group equally. I enjoyed the backstage interview too. It was cute. Of course, there are criticisms and opinions.

LD

It was probably low viewership because of the time. It was at 6am my time so I decided to watch it later.

While I agree there are somethings that could have been better about BH's NYEL, like the stage production. I think they'll get there, and I do think that production value overall would have been dramatically higher had it come at the end of a "normal" year. What I did like was that the groups who would have performed for maybe 5-7 minutes at most (with far less production value, imo) at a year end show were given 3-4x that. Especially Gfriend and Nu'Est. Whether it was successful or not, whether people liked it or not, it did feel like an attempt was made to make it not feel like BTS feat. BH Artists vs. "The Others". Maybe Covid era has tempered my expectations, but during a time of quarantines, social distancing, tour cancellations (loss of revenue), etc. I didn't go in expecting BH to put out 9 "BTS mama/mma 2019" level stages. Is there room for improvement? Of course, it's literally the first one! Also, I'm not a "company stan". I just try to give anyone who is trying to figure out how to move forward in any industry that has been impacted by everything going on, when we are all still so far from reaching the other end of the tunnel, a little leeway.

Hana Park

I think bighit should try and allow their idols to mingle and know each other more. That concert was pure physics. No chemistry at all. And bighit is becoming greedy recently and its going to be bad for them because we fans need to be fed good stuff like korean beef and what they did was give us frozen meat. Personally, this nyel concert was the worst of all. Lastly, there are isolating bts so much. Apart from the group leader stuff, bts was not real there at the concert apart from their perfomance. If its about a label they need to show us what a label means which is team work. Whether they are power house or not they should show us that they respect everyone's contribution whether its big or small. I was dissappointed with the nyel and if they plan on not changing then they should not do it.

Tee Lee

Big Hit Japan bg. They plan to have them go to training camp in Korea. They only have two Japanese members. One Taiwanese. Two Korean. They are auditioning from around the world. The only “Japanese” requirement to audition is that they have to be available to work in Japan. They say they will launch the group in Japan but then also create Korean music and then roll out globally. The introduction video had each of the group speaking in their own language. I think they’re going to do things differently here. BHE will have a heavy Korean influence in how they do this. I do not think there’s a cap to this.

Gayl Carlberg

YUP I think the Japanese group was in the works all along.

Joy

I'm more excited for the Japanese group than Enhypen as well.

Joy

How do concert tickets for an online concert without any particular fan interaction activities get sold out anyway. I think Bighit just wanted more money so they stopped the 35 dollar option . What do you guys think?

sandy

I'm happy u guys had a better NYE than I did. This was the first time in 30 years that I did not work the NYE celebration. I was invited and could have gone as all first responders were invited but the electricity of 1 million people at the world's biggest block party in New York City, was gone. They tried to hype it but to no avail. I stayed home, tuned in for the last 30 seconds and tuned out. I'm scheduled to get the vaccine soon, I'll let u know how that works out. Maybe I'll live stream getting it. Lolol. So yeah I didn't do anything, just waited for the holidays to pass. I'm gona try to tune in for the aftershow in 3 hours if I'm awake.

Steven Pambello

One more thing, Danny, a hole in one ? Lolololol I'm gona try to make it but I might be knock out.

Steven Pambello

Hi guys, Sorry I'll miss this live but I look forward to more "in-depth" discussions about the concerts quality even though I kinda think you covered it well before. I don't really care about the idols dating but theory hints are always fun. I'm more interested in what your kpop 2021 predictions are. Also David, please update us on how your grandma is doing. That NY live walk-thru was pretty cool. Was not expecting that massive promenade area and that sashimi building blew my mind abit. Take care guys and belated Happy New Year💜

BTStrash

Why is dating such a scandal? If ur mom and dad didn't date, u wouldn't be here.

Steven Pambello

BH Japan has been around for a while, at least from what I recall. So I feel like there must have been planning in the works for some time to debut this group. And while I understand the critiques that this group debuting somewhat defeats the purpose of the "survival" aspect of I-LAND, I have a strong sense that plans were already in place for some of the trainees to debut anyway (I don’t think the final outcome was rigged, but I’m certain BH and BeLift had their biases). Making it at I-LAND would have just given them the opportunity to debut earlier, if they made the final cut. Anyway, so happy and excited for K though!!! Boi was robbed from his rightful place in ENHYPEN lol. Hope to see Geonu debut some day soon as well!

Abby Pasion

I'm so confused why dating among idols is a scandal. They are human. They all date, and it's crazy to think they are all single. The problem is, IMO, is that Kpop markets the fantasy of idols. The imagery, the merch, everything to draw the consumer in. While great in strategy, the idols aren't allowed to freely date without backlash or losing status which is insane to me. From my understanding, S. Korea is the most Boo'd up country. Couples everywhere, down to matching outfits. That said, it's odd that the "idols" aren't dating is even a thing. I still think Namjoon is married with 3 kids but I guess we'll never know. 🤣😅j/k

Anique Monae

I was curious about SM saying they had the biggest online concert too. If they mean for 2021, then yes. But ever? No. Bang bang con was. It's the competition thing for me.

Anique Monae

I was also a little disappointed in BigHits NYE Concert~ I expected the same production standard as ON:E had. Also: Since MAMA / MMA Staged weren't as big as last year I expected >more< from the NYE Concert. If I was BigHit I would want people to say the best year end stage of BTS was at the BigHit Concert obviously! But it wasn't. Disappointed in that. I also wanted/expected at least one stage/song with all groups in it. And the countdown .. wow, that was the biggest letdown. It was basically a car add. At least for me it wasn't really midnight. Now that we know K & Taki will debut in a japanese BigHit Group the editing in I-Land makes a lot more sense. Taki got SO MUCH screentime at the beginning. Well K did too, but K had the obvious talent. I just think towards the end the ruined Ks persona with the editing~ At least for Korean audience. I think internatioally K is still one of the favourites and there was a lot of disappointment when he didn't make it. Honestly right now I'm more excited for that japanese group than I'm for Enhypen.

Daniela Dittrich

about the new year concert, i agree with danny the countdown was such a disappointment. the drone show was kinda nice and cool and beautiful really, but the bgm was such a bad choice! i think it didn't vibe with the whole celebration feel? i love the song ioniq but come on.... they dont have to use bts song just bc they are the ambassador? and they could at least prerecord the artists doing the countdown and show it on the screen or something. overall it was just anticlimactic. as for the performance yeah i feel like their stages are just like a normal music bank stages but like with more budgets lol. i spent ~$50 but i feel like i was robbed lol. don't really mind it i only paid to watch bts anyway. i think Bighit didn't publish the numbers bcs it must be pretty low/lower than expectation? the price isn't exactly cheap and there was some "protests" abt the concert too right. i will admit i'm not sure what's going on with the whole BH vs SM so i'm just gonna listen to your opinions in the aftershow. see you soon!

elle

I'd like to think that BH or BeLift reached out to my golden boi Geonu, and/or other I-Landers as well. Maybe they turned down the offer, we won't really know. But I am curious how that process went!

Abby Pasion

I wonder why they chose those I-landers. What happened to Geonu? Why Japan?

Kriss

well I'm looking forward to the tea.

elle

Do you think bighit will respond to SM’s media play? Didn’t bang bang con have 50 million views on YouTube alone? Bang bang con did go on for a longer duration as well so maybe they aren’t comparable. Also I legit had a few tears for Taki, K and the other I-Landers. They looked so visibly happy in the announcement and I wasn’t expecting it. I guess Bang PD kept his promise to K during the finale. K truly deserves this. Also EJ really got me in my feels. his exit was sad -saying iLand was likely his last chance and I truly didn’t expect see him again. Do you think there is a chance for other I-Lamders making he final lineup? I’d love to see Jaebom or Geonu, but more likely the other members will be Japanese. Any thoughts on Hanbin’s performance? Is he gonna debut as a solo artist under BE lift? Hope so!

Eri

PLEASE give us a hint about the mega group couple. Is one of them from the group were all thinking of? Is the male or female idol more popular? I'm begging you give us something.
