Android version | When will it be back?

A lot of people have been messaging me about the Android version of the game... some sad, some frustrated and some, let's say, quite angry 😮 ... so I think it's only fair that I take the time to explain the whole issue in detail.

As you already know, for the Android version I need to place the file on a server with its own domain, so that the downloader app can find it. I can't put it on Google Drive or itch.io

So I found a hosting that allowed me to do this for free, but it had a 100 GB monthly download limit. It ran out in 2 days.

Looking at how to resolve the issue, it was suggested that I take out a plan with them that would continue without a fixed monthly fee but that in the month that the limit expired I would have the option of increasing the quota by paying extra on my credit card.

Well, I thought it was interesting because the idea is that over time players don't need to download the whole game, but only the files that are updated, so only at certain times would I need this extra quota.

And that's what I did... I put my credit card there and made the game available again.

Thinking that when the quota ran out I would receive a notice asking if I would like to increase it or not... and then I would decide.

But then came the surprise!

As I was busy with work, I couldn't keep track of the downloads day by day.

Of course, with the game available for download in two days, the 100GB quota was exceeded again ... But instead of the server suspending the download until I decided what to do, it simply added extra 100 GB quotas at a cost of 60 dollars each... 😮😮😮

As it took me a few days to see how the download was going, when I opened the site I was startled to be charged 120 dollars in just 4 days!

Anyone who has any idea of hosting costs knows that this amount is completely out of reality for a simple hosting of a few files,

I can't even imagine the amount that would have been charged to my credit card if I hadn't seen this in time.

Of course, the first thing I did was to take the files offline before any more charges came in.

Now I'm going to get paid hosting, with a fixed price... no surprises.

But I can only cancel this current hosting after the month is over and the quotas reset again. They won't let me delete the credit card until then

I don't want to commit to any new hosting until I'm sure there won't be any more surprises.

I know that many may think that the amount isn't even that high... but as I've always made clear, I develop the game with the free time I get with the help of sponsors... I don't have the margin to spend that kind of money on expensive hosting... especially when less than 10% of players use the Android version.

Of course, even if there were only one player using Android, I'd do everything I could to deliver the game ... and I intend to make this version available again very soon!

 I haven't given up on it! ✅
