[Web Res] Furry Wife of the Week: Wave The Swallow (Covered)

Another entry for the project that I joined for May. I always wanted to make Wave to be honest with you, one of my fave since I know her quite a long time ago. I really hope you all like how this one came out

At this point, Tails will be with all the females in Mobian lol

Short Story

Rivals in the Sun

The beach stretched out like a golden promise under the midday sun, waves crashing lazily against the shore. Tails had come here with Sonic, Knuckles, and Amy, all of them eager to ditch the chaos of their usual adventures for a day of sand and surf. The air smelled of salt and sunscreen, and the heat pressed down on Tails’ fur as he helped set up their spot—towels, an umbrella, the works. He was just starting to relax when a familiar voice cut through the chatter.

“Well, well, look who decided to crash our beach day,” Jet drawled, sauntering over with Storm lumbering behind him. And there, beside them, was Wave the Swallow.

Tails’ eyes flicked to her, and he froze. Wave was leaning against a surfboard, all casual confidence, but it wasn’t her usual gearhead smirk that caught him off guard. She was wearing a blue striped bikini that looked like it was fighting a losing battle to contain her curves, the fabric stretched tight across her chest. Her short jeans were a joke—unbuttoned and slung low, showing off the matching bikini bottom hugging her hips. Tails blinked, then blinked again. He’d always seen Wave as a rival, a sharp-tongued mechanic who could outsmart him on a good day. But this? This was new. Shapely didn’t even begin to cover it.

She caught him staring and smirked, tilting her head. “What’s the matter, shorty? Never seen a beach before?”

Tails snapped his gaze away, cheeks burning. “Just... uh, checking out the surf,” he mumbled, fumbling with a towel. Smooth, real smooth.

The groups merged into a loose truce, deciding to kill time with a volleyball game. Sonic and Jet took charge, picking teams like it was a world championship. Tails ended up with Sonic, Wave with Jet. As the ball flew back and forth, Tails tried to keep his head in the game—honest, he did. But every time Wave moved, it was like his brain short-circuited. She’d leap for a spike, and that bikini top would shift just enough to make his heart stutter. She’d dive for a save, and those unbuttoned jeans would slip lower, revealing the curve of her hips. He missed a shot—then another—his eyes darting to her when he thought no one would notice.

“Yo, Tails, you asleep over there?” Knuckles called, laughing.

“Nah, just... off my game,” Tails shot back, forcing a grin. Off his game was an understatement. He was a mess, and Wave’s every move was the reason.

Jet’s team won, mostly because Tails couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. Afterward, the gang decided to grab lunch at a café down the shore. Tails waved them off, sinking into a lounge chair. “I’m good, just gonna rest. Bring me back something, okay?”

Sonic shrugged. “Don’t fry out here, buddy.”

As they wandered off, Tails let out a long breath, closing his eyes. The sun was warm, the waves a steady hum. He tried to sort through the tangle in his head—Wave, that outfit, the way she moved. He’d never thought of her like this before. Rival, sure. Annoying, definitely. But attractive? It was messing with him.

A shadow fell over him, and he cracked an eye open. Wave stood there, hands on her hips, that smirk back in full force. “Hey, shorty. Thought I’d keep you company.”

Tails sat up, startled. “Wave? I thought you went with—”

“Nope.” She dropped onto the chair next to him, so close her thigh brushed his. The heat of her skin sent a jolt through him. “Caught you sneaking peeks out there. You think you’re smooth, huh? Cute, but I’m not impressed yet.”

He opened his mouth to protest—I wasn’t sneaking—but the words died when she leaned closer, her voice dropping to a tease. “Let’s see if you can handle me up close, shorty.”

Before he could process that, Wave’s hands slid to her chest. She cupped her massive breasts through the bikini, giving them a playful jiggle. The fabric shifted, and—oh, man—her areola peeked out, a teasing flash of skin that made Tails’ breath catch. His eyes locked on her, wide and unblinking, his heart slamming against his ribs.

“W-Wave, what are you—” he stammered, his voice cracking.

She laughed, low and throaty. “Relax, shorty. You’ve been staring all day. Figured I’d give you a better look.”

Tails swallowed hard, torn between bolting and leaning in. She was so close now, her scent—salt and something sweet—filling his senses. He wasn’t used to this. Wave was always the one-upping him, the gearhead who called him out on every mistake. But this wasn’t about engines or rivalry. This was... something else.

“You gonna just sit there?” she teased, arching a brow. Her hands dropped, leaving her chest exposed for a heartbeat longer before she adjusted the bikini with a lazy grin.

Tails found his voice, barely. “I... didn’t think you’d notice.”

“Oh, I notice everything.” She leaned in, her breath warm against his ear. “Question is, what’re you gonna do about it?”
