Screw's News : 2024 recap, plans for 2025

Hello there, and happy new year everyone !!!
   I hope you had a
great time celebrating, I sure did, and I finally completly recovered
from the food and alcohol orgy it was ! So now, with a new year around
the corner, I wanted to speak about the year that went by, and what is
planned forward !
HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!
Screw's work in 2024 :
 
 The past year have been pretty busy, although a bit light when it
comes to the number of updates. I started the year by releasing 0.09,
which opened the nothern part of the map, and introduced new locations,
mechanics and characters, as well as a continuation of the story. 0.10
followed after, adding more scenes and content to the new locations, and
finished updating all the scenes to fit Illonia's new model. I then
took two month without working on the game for the summer, to change my
mind a bit, work on commissions, and also try to learn Blender.
 
 During that period, I also did a big poll to see what should be the
content of the 0.12 update, and the ones behind, to see what would be
the next big think I should focus on. Without a real surprise, Pregnancy
& Kids won by a landslide. It's something that have been requested
for long, and I'm happy I'm gonna be able to focus on it next !
I
also reworked a bit the tiers, and added the new options for the highest
tier to suggest a scene for the game each month, and then for my
supporters to vote for the one they'll like to see. That's a great way
to get scenes that aren't too linked to the story, and just here to be
enjoyed. And also to get some fresh new ideas ! But I've been really
slow implementing those, so I need to catch up ^^'
   On the
other hand, the Blender test really didn't go as I hoped. While yes,
I've learned the basics of it, portability between it and DAZ (the
software I'm using currently) is really poor. I wanted to use to do more
cum effects, better deformations and small things like that, but while I
could transfer models and scenes from DAZ to Blender, the reverse seems
impossible, and I can't fully switch to Blender (that would mean way
too much work, and a shift in style. That's absolutly not what I want).
So the Blender plan is scapped for the moment.
   After that, I
went back to work on the game, focusing on 0.11. It was planned as a
small update, to just add a few small things here and there to polish
the current content before diving into 0.12. But as I worked on it, it
grew is size and scope, and became a pretty chunky update. Let's talk a
bit more about it !

About 0.11 :
 
 The BETA for 0.11 have been released this monday, for all of my 10$
and higher supporters. There was quite a few bugs in it, and there's
still suite some things to add, but you can expect the full release two
weeks after, as usual, so around January 13. And it'll go public one
week after that, so around January 20. Sorry for the delays, but they
were for goods reasons ^^' Go read my weekly news if you want to know
more about it.
   What's in 0.11, then ? I won't go into details,
I already did in my various blog posts and weekly news, and you'll get
the full changelog when it's released. But for the highlights :
-Two
new mechanics, Fast Travel (unlocked after progressing the main quest)
and Emissary (a way to control your allegiance by fighting)
-Ursula's
New model. You've probably seen it some time ago, but I redesigned her,
and this new models now appears after progressing the main quest. It
also comes with fully updated talking pics and scenes featuring her.
-The
continuation and conclusion of the main quest, around Ursula's Grimoire
and Illonia's crest. While it's far from the end of the main story,
this conclude the first narrative arc of the story, also omarking an ice
transition for what's next to come.
-New sidequests and scenes. Of course, there's a lot of new content to enjoy too !
 
 As I said, I still have some work to do for the full release, but I've
already made good progress. I'll see if I have the time to sqeeze a new
scene in it too, but no promises ! Also, while it's not exactly related
to the update, I'm pleased to announce that, with my right hand man, we
wrote a full walkthrough. So for all the people asking for one, you'll
finally get it ! It'll come along some saves (a full one and one
catching at the start of the new update), and they'll be updated for
each new full release, starting with 0.11 !

The plans for 2025 :
 
 Well, first of all, I need to release 0.11, of course. The rest of the
month will be focused on catching up with the game scenes from the
monthly poll. I've only done one for the moment, and there's three more
that are late ^^' So better work on those early. I need to get a better
rythm about all that, same for the posts here.  The new weekly news is a
great addition in my opinion, to share what I've done recently and give
you some informations on what I'm working at the moment.
 
 Concerning what everyone is waiting for : the pregnancy content. In my
current plans, 0.12 will be fully focused around Illonia's pregnancy,
0.13 will be for all the others charactersand 0.14 will be focused
around birth and kids. Of course, it might be bigger than I imagine and
might be split in more updates (it'll probably end up like that, you
know me). Also, don't worry, even if birth and kids are just for 0.14,
it just mean that before those update, you'll be able to give birth,
just be without any scenes and kids will magically vanish. But you'll
still be able to get the girls pregnant multiple times !
 
 Overall, I'd like to get to a rythm of 4 updates a year, so around one
update every three month. That seems a rythm that could work with the
way I handle the updates and the content I like to add in those. We'll
see how it'll go, of course ! But yeah, I expect to spend the full year
working on pregnancy content (and some side scenes here and there, of
course). That's gonna be fun !
   Of course, a lot of all this
will also be done after talking with you and seeing what you think is
the best. Should there be multiple pregnancy stages ? Hyperpreg ? Should
I give the girls a different outfit during pregnancy ? How do we do
with the kids ? Plenty of questions I'll ask though polls, so make sure
to keep an eye open for those. I'm also comissionning an artist to draw
me some custom impregnation icons, which should be areally nice touch to
the game ! Since the pregnancy update is something a lot of people
(myself included) have been waiting for a long time, I want to make sure
I make it as good as possible !!!
   Of course, I'll also take
more comissions this year. It's a nice change from the game, and a great
income source, so there's no reason to stop, specially seeing how eager
some people are waiting for me to open again ! I'll open the next batch
once 0.11 is fully released, so get ready for that too ! I need to find
a good rythm with those, it's always a bit complex to balance between
coms and the game. I guess it'll also greatly depend of how much money I
get from here, and how much more I need to live decently. Lately,
there's been more people choosing to support me, so thanks a lot for
that ! Let's hope it'll continue to grow like that !
Overall, I feel like 2025 wil be a great year for me ! And for the game too !

 Yes, it's the time where I ramble a bit, but you can't stop me ! :D
Overall, I'd say I'm pretty happy with 2024. I've released 2/3 updates,
which is less than I would like, but they were pretty chunky, and of
really good quality. I've also done quite a lot of commission, that was
pretty fun, to get to experiment with things I wouldn't usually do,
create new models and try to make them looks close to the original. It's
always a pleasure, and also a great boost to my income, which is much
needed.
    As you probably know, I left my job at the end of
2023, trying to fully live of my art. And this year proved I was able to
make it. All thanks to all of you and your support, so thank you so
much for that. That's why I'm finalizing the paperwork to declare myself
as a fully independant artist, that should start officially next week.
Until then, I didn't declare it, which means I payed no taxes and also
got some uneployment helps. But it was considered as an illegal
activity, and I'd rather pay my taxes to make sure I don't get into
trouble. So yeah, that's my official job and career from now on, let's
make it go far !
   And with 0.11 closing the first narrative
arc, that I started five years ago, it really feels like a turning point
for me. This game I started for fun, to distract myself during
lockdown, it grew up along the way, and now, it's becoming my career and
the source of my income. Did I ever imagine myself in that situation ?
Well yes, of course ! That was the dream story. Okay, maybe the perfect
dream involved me releasing ten times more content and making truly
insane amounts of money, but dreams aren't here to be realistic.
But
man, to be here, writing all this, it feels good. I've made it. Is it
perfect ? Of course not, some things could always be better, but it's so
much better than working in fast food as I did before. I absolutly love
what I do. And I know I can't take everything I have for granted, and I
need to keep on working to progress, and share more content to all of
you. But this is alreayd such a privilege to be able to make a living
from my art, and to have all of you people enjoying my work and
supporting me. There's plenty of things I can progress on, plenty to add
add to the game, so much things to do. And I'm really looking forward
to all this.
