Intro to Threadbare /// Pt. 3 : An Idyllic Setting

A sense of place is important for escapism. It allows us, as viewers and creators alike, to be transported out of the ordinary and into something quieter, more blissful, or exotic. A compelling setting doesn’t just frame the work—it invites us to dwell inside it.

In Threadbare, even when the environment isn’t visible in every composition, I want its presence to be felt. The place itself—its textures, its silence, its light—should evoke an atmosphere that unifies the series with a recognizable quality.

I imagine a natural world that feels timeless and raw. It's Mediterranean in character, shaped by the wind and sea, full of craggy cliffs, flowering vegetation, and sun-bleached stone. A landscape that feels both weathered and eternal, as if it’s been waiting for ages.

It will be idealized only so much as the figures themselves. I want it to feel real, tactile, and imperfect—carved out by time.

Nothing is set in stone yet... though I certainly intend to draw plenty of ancient boulders! Join me as I explore possibilities and develop a setting that becomes as much a character in its own right as it is a backdrop for threadbare figures and their story…

Thanks Kyllian! Zorn has definitely been a huge inspiration for me over the years. I love how simply and naturally he combines the figure with the landscape, like deer in the forest.

That sounds great and it instantly reminds me of Zorn's gorgeous nude paintings in nature. I have been a fan of you art since I started my own art journey about 10 years ago! I'm looking forward to see more of your work and learn along the way. Thank you for sharing and best of luck with your projects :)
