Over Memorial Day weekend Tuna Boat Tony swung by for a visit and we played through the entirety of a romhack of Pokemon Red known as "Cock Version". It's a basic hack that replaces most of the NPC dialog with really explicit and offensive things. The creator wrote some truly outrageous things and there are several moments where Tony and I just had to stop playing and laugh for a while.
However some of the "explicit content" in this game treaded into race territory which ran afoul of what we're allowed to stream on Twitch which prevented us from doing this game a few years ago. (That did not stop it from spawning the "Moon Stone? More like BULLSHIT." meme in the community though.) I already said my piece on the matter about how it's absolutely stupid that "everything else in the game is fine" (references to sexual assault, explicit language, etc) but god forbid you say one thing that might be considered racist. Just really kind of shows the sort of fucked up priorities that run rampant in society today. Not that I am defending racism or anything, I just think if you can't say the N-word then I think you also shouldn't be able to openly joke about things like rape. But whatever. This isn't a soapbox post, and I think you guys already kind of understand my opinion on the matter. We're all adults here, none of us were actually offended by this game because all of us knew going into it that it was going to intentionally try to do exactly that.
Back in 2012/2013 we would've been streaming on the now defunct Livestream.com service and they absolutely did not care what you broadcasted. They just wanted activity. It was suggested to me that we could potentially host a stream of this romhack locally through Discord though and because that would be entirely self-contained within the Gatorbox community we'd be able to play the game while avoiding pissing off Twitch or YouTube. I assumed this would be easy to set up because a few weeks ago I ran a stream with Fusion, a co-host, and we riffed on the show Weaponizers. That was easy to set up. This game was not. Tony and I spent nearly an hour and a half messing with settings in Discord because no matter what we did we could not get the game audio to come through. Eventually I just gave up and set the microphone sensitivity threshold to -100dB so that it was literally always detecting that something was being said and I let the TV audio bleed over into the stream.
In the end we got rolling and despite a power failure thanks to all the boomer tourists flooding Corpus Christi over the holiday weekend we beat the romhack and spoke to pretty much every single person in the game to see what they had to say.
If you missed the stream, which a lot of people did because this is the first time we hosted one through Discord, getting access to the post-stream VODs was tricky because they were not automatically saved onto our Twitch channel or anything. I've converted them to MP4 and hosted them on Google Drive (because Patreon has a limit of 5GB per file per post so the alternative is making five separate Patreon posts).
Eventually this playthrough will be edited and heavily censored to go on the Gatorbox Plus YouTube channel, but for now here are the VODs in case you want to check them out.
