boy sometimes you just look silly

Okay, so, I just uploaded a new revision of the LPX video where I pointed out that the XT had 8 slots and not 7, a really silly factual error that I should have caught... and before I could refresh the page someone pointed out another one: the PS/2 had a massive and broadly acknowledged impact on the industry, by giving us VGA!

And, yeah, I'd mentioned that in the video... but I also asserted that the only thing anyone ever says we got from the PS/2 was the smaller keyboard and mouse ports, which just isn't true; it's pretty well known that we wouldn't have VGA without the PS/2, and I'll get roasted (deservedly) if I don't fix that.

Anyway, that's why the comments are paused on the current version, since I know I'm gonna replace it with a new revision before public release. I'm gonna wait a day first however in case anyone wants to point out any other incredibly embarrassing factual errors :p

I grew up with a PS/2 and have only recently come to understand how weird that was. It was our one and only family computer for the first ten years of my life. And now the rtc is finally dead and I can’t replace it until I figure out how to get it out of the socket where midwest basement humidity has rusted it in place.

So i went on a deep dive, mostly through yandex and baidu, in hopes i'll find something more than vague info about this. I found several patent applications *for newer form-factors* that cited LPX as prior work, but nothing revolutionary. The two most interesting patents I found were US5963431A (1998, defines a *modification* to the LPX "standard" by compaq) and US4862327A (1988, defines a familiar looking riser, but doesn't mention LPX by name). All the existing diagrams of LPX I found online came either from patents mentioning it as prior work, or from "CompTIA cram books". I also found some info about MiniLPX, which seems to be a shorter version of LPX, but otherwise the same thing. Also, chinese companies STILL sell LPX boards, i've seen way too many of them on baidu last night. Here's my Random Assortment Of Vaguely Interesting Links: https://md.sakamoto.pl/U4K1GDLQTK-LYGz0qGEgOw - as i said, nothing revolutionary, just some more sources you could have missed. I'm gonna go into this rabbithole again tonight, maybe i'll find something more.
