Video: Scanner Mouse

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDjleq0PJX0

I'm putting this out for you all without a thumbnail or a proper title or chapters or anything because I'm still kinda reeling from having finished anything at all. Having trouble getting back into a routine. I might end up retracting this if I find any major errors but it's been so long I just wanted to get it in front of people. Will do the rest of the work before I release it on Monday.

This video is far better than I had expected, especially after... events occurred, not long into shooting. It is, however, pretty cynical.

I'd like to believe that my snarkiness is in entirely good faith, but I don't know. I've been angry as hell lately. Everything is broken, everything sucks. My fridge died and I had to throw out all my food. I skinned my shin on a trailer hitch. Stuff just keeps breaking, and I miss my cat, so I've been just mad a lot. Not at anything that didn't deserve it, but still.

This video was depressing to the point that when I initially finished the script, I simply walked away from my computer, cried, and couldn't come back to it for another day. That's because it's about a modern product, from the 2010s. There's a good reason I don't talk about modern products: everything's fraud now.

In this video, I slander the hell out of a company that I don't really know anything about. I didn't research it hard enough to find out if anyone there acted like they had an actual pulse, or pretended to give a damn about what they were doing. Maybe someone who worked there will comment and call me a bastard and a prick for the things I said.

But you know, I don't care, because that person won't actually be one who made any of the decisions that mattered. I didn't bother researching because I wouldn't believe anything I was told. It's always a pack of lies because all businesses are frauds now.

I had another full page of text here about this, but I deleted it all because it's just depressing. I think this video is fun for what it is, I don't regret it or anything, but if I never look at another piece of modern electronics again it'll be too soon. I think we can all agree that my channel would just get too bleak to watch. If it's not apparent, then take my word for it.

Watched this last night and my pet-theory is that this tech was a doctoral-thesis-turned-product and those involved had little to no experience in business. The combination of highly ambitious maths with an implementation that ALMOST works (stitching, etc) just has that vibe to it.

Skoddie

A technical term is POBAX-Engineering: Problem Of Buyer At eXit. We see a lot of this in the purely Software-as-a-Service business where takeing provosions for data security (backups, ...) are actually anathema to the business as you only need the checkbox for the due diligence and no further time and money can be spent on it

"Probably" is the word here, especially given the context. It's a guess, not a statement. If he said "it will burn down your house" that would be a different story.

Scott Kemp

Glad to know I'm not the only one having these sorts of issues. Thank you for sharing.

Burley

I think, to answer your potential-Rhetorical, if one hasn't actually used the device that will "probably burn your house down", then the statement could be considered "unsubstantiated slander" against the manufacturer.

Carleton Torpin

the "defect" of the devices will turn out to be a bit coin miner, just took 10 minutes to download. :-)

I've had an extremely bad couple of months myself (had to put down a dog who loved me more than anything on the planet, among other things), and I've been completely absent from the world. I couldn't imagine putting the energy into making a video right now, let alone one of your quality. I don't know why I'm sharing this, just want to say thanks for putting together a video while In a bad state, it has given me, and others I'm sure, a brief respite from their bullshit lives as well. You rock, CRD

Tyler Kurth

There are millions of people on youtube giving negative reviews of products based entirely on opinions, why would I be any different? I don't trust any lithium ion battery.

Cathode Ray Dude

4:50 - Definitely remove the phrase "will probably burn your house down", if this video does go live, in order to proactively avoid legal hassles.

>It's always a pack of lies because all businesses are frauds now. Ain't that the truth. The modern global financial structure, especially when combined with the current western culture, promotes grifting and manipulation above improving societies in a material way. Honestly I feel this has been the case for at least 20 years, but the grifts of the mid 00's seem more quirky when compared to the genuinely sociopathic dark patterns and physical DRM of this era. Thinking about it for very long isn't healthy though. I try to take only one or two blackpills a day. They're addictive, and sitting there being negative doesn't help anything.

Deiny

Thank you for sharing what you're going though IRL, and for producing an informative video in the process.
