Tiers

Edit: After some excellent input, I think I'm happy with the tiers I've outlined for the time being and will implement them later. I'm not sure if you'll need to select these or if it'll automatically put you in them based on what you pledged. Thanks everyone!

I've gotten a number of fervent requests to add tiers/rewards to my Patreon and by all appearances this seems like a good idea. This is very new territory to me, because I've never had any interest in patron rewards myself, but I totally get why people like them, so I've been working on some tiers.

Since presumably you all actually use Patreon in the "normal" way that I'm not used to, it'd be great if I could get some feedback on whether these sound reasonable. I realize there is some small amount of conflict of interest, but I trust you to be fair!

A buried lede is that I'm thinking of starting a Discord, and I'd like to know what you think of that. Again, it's not a thing I normally find much interest in, but apparently they're very popular.

Tiers:

$1 - B&W - Early access to videos, various patron-only posts, and access to my Discord, an experimental foray which I may cancel at any time if I realize it's just a huge stressor.

$5 - Shadow Mask - Behind the scenes footage. Teasers of things I'm working on (or strongly considering) for future videos. Mail Call videos.

$10 - Aperture Grille - Very early access to rough drafts; things that I either think have merit but aren't good enough to post publicly; things that will never be released otherwise; or things that I want input on. Also, an out-loud shoutout, if you request it, in my next video after you've signed up.

$15 - Beam-Index - All of the above plus rolling credits at the end of videos.

Comments

For me personally, I don't care too much about tiers. I'm donating primarily to support the creation of more content. :-) I especially enjoy deep dives into arcane or old tech, and love things like "The Forgotten History of Home Video." In other words, just keep doing what you're doing!

Afterthought: For people making their living out of youtube, tiers do make sense as they encourage followers to donate more :)

Cute tier names hehee :) May I ask what are "Mail Call videos"? Personally not a huge fan of patreon tier systems, I think everybody should get or miss the same amount of extras regardless of how much they donate (Here you go, the commie comment from Finland x) )
