Happy August, Blackbirds!

July’s deliveries, belatedly at last, are in the mail! Whew, what a ride this past month has been. Thank you for joining me on it, and welcome to the host of new members this August!

I thought it might be a little fun to give you a different kind of peek behind the curtain in my process. I start all my postcards — and most artworks in general — with a Pinterest board that brings together all kinds of images, vibes and art styles I’m interested in drawing inspiration from. This is rarely the place for direct references; much more so, it’s about getting into the mood. So here’s a little glance at the beginning of my board for September’s postcard of the month! I should caveat and warn not to read too deeply into it, as the final product rarely resembles the board too closely. :P

(An aside: The decades I center my work around are very solidly the 1890s-1920s, but golly do 1970s witchcraft and satanic aesthetics really do something for me. Maybe I’ll make a little deviation sometime in that direction!)

The artists on the board are mostly noted in the pin titles, but it is missing Kali Ciesemier (top third), Tito Corbella (top fourth), and another Mucha (second row fourth).

PPS: I’ll say this now and again, but if you intend to change your membership status or cancel your memberships, for my ease please wait until a bit later in the month to do so! I have to spend the first week of the month waiting for everyone’s payments to shake out before I can sort out who gets what, so if you change your status too quickly you risk not getting what you are owed. I do my best!
