Ok, so I'm sticking to the north with my next map, which was teased in the last map that detailed the North pole of Elyden. Here's the fact box for the Federation of Pergost. This will be the focus of the High-res and Textless next Atlas maps to be published for next week, exclusively for Acolytes.
The Low-res version and encyclopaedia entries will be available to everyone the week after that. Thanks all for your support.
An Abbreviated History of Pergost
- Fourth Age: Ceeropia dominates the north of Llachatul. It is an urbane empire, with humans, dverg and many other races calling it home. Far from the major mortal kingdoms and empires and the politicking of their leaders, it is allowed to grow unopposed, though the Shadow War that will grip the mortal world will be its downfall. The empire grows too large and falters, with the final blow coming with the devastation caused by the war. Too large to defend itself, it becomes a target to barbarians and marauders, and collapses early in the Fifth Age.
- c. -1000 - c. 1100 RM: other would-be powers rise and fall in the dark ages after the fall of the mortal world, though most pass without knowledge surviving to the present day. Barbarians remain a constant threat to these people, though by c. 1100 RM the worst of them are brought under control.
- c. 1300 RM: the region of Eldria emerges from a long line of successive kingdoms and states, claiming much of the territories abandoned by the fall of Ceeropia. The barbarian threat that stymied the growth of its predecessors has been largely neutralised, with their descendants becoming known as the Turaan - an ethnic group that survives to this day, known for its semi-nomadic lifestyle and adherence to traditional values that have since been lost elsewhere.
- c. 2180 RM: a group of people known as the Orrex emerges from the White Sheet, claiming to be descended from a line of genetically-engineered warriors of ancient Ceeropia.
- C. 2190 - 2205 RM: the Orrex gain popularity and rise to power, their actions leading to a schism within Eldria, causing great chaos.
- 2227 RM: Eldria is sundered in two, with the Orrex in control of the west, and the east fracturing into a handful of claimant states, none of which gain a sizeable following. The Orrex are not content, and move towards the faltering land, slowly claiming them.
- 2289 RM: the Orrex claim all of Eldria through their charisma and the natural following they have mustered, becoming emperors the same year. This is the start of the Orrex Dynasties that would last until the fall of Eldria in 3682 RM.
Life under the Orrex is harsh, but this is expected from life in such harsh conditions. Large fortresses are built, around which settlements grow. Great iron and amethyst quarries are constructed, marring the surface of their home, but bringing them great riches. These mines grow steadily in both number and scope, until much of the centre of the Rehemazi peninsula becomes a wasteland of polluted pits, forcing people to move either west and east.
The Orrex Dynasties grow increasingly decadent and removed from the realities of life for their subjects. They live long and depraved lives, building monolithic brutalist palaces that are as baroque and gaudy on the inside as they are stark and grey on the out. The Dynasty and its allies lead lives of increasing excesses, while outside, their people toiled, working the land to fund their rulers’ lavish lifestyles. - 3677 RM: the first signs of true unrest occur when an open-caste mine in Ubhuttal collapses, killing hundreds of workers. The Orrex force the survivors to work longer and harder to the cover the losses. The workers refuse, leading to a battle between them and the overseers, in which many die. The conflict is only resolved through the intervention of the dynastic armies, which wipe out the entire workforce of the mine, after which workers and slaves are brought in from Eldria and beyond to continue working the mines.
- 3677 - 3681 RM: many similar revolts follow over the next years, which culminate in the autumn of 3681 RM when workers refuse to harvest crops. Across Eldria, labourers and slaves lay down their tools and stop working.
- 3682 RM: this leads to a civil war that leaves the region powerless, its armies fractured, its workforce depleted, and its people starving. The last Orrex is slain when the palace in Gojidhu is stormed and destroyed, and the government rapidly falters. By the end of the year Eldria splinters - the west claimed by a recently-formed Sabia as the east fragments, with multiple states and territories rising to reclaim the ruin of the Eldrian empire.
- 3708 - 3721 RM: a loose alliance forms between a handful of states, bringing stability back the region.
- c. 3721 RM: the Federation of Pergost is officially recognised, named after the ruined Eldrian coliseum in which the agreement takes place. The city of Ostoyan will later appear around the ruin, serving as a home to conclaves between Pergosti states.
- 3843 RM: three shamen siblings are possessed by a spirit claiming to be the Last Orrex. Now known as the Trifectate, they become popular in the south-east, taking residence in the city of Kharwaryan, where their following grows. Their rule is not recognised by the Federation, and many claim the Tirfectate lands will soon break away, forming an independent region.
