the Korachan Gazetteer

I've been slowly working on a setting guide specific to the nation and empire of Korachan and have been playing with chapters for the book. After some suggestions I've come up with the below chapters, though am still open to suggestion.

I've been working with fleshing out the social classes over the past few days and am quite pleased with the result so-far. It's strange that I've been working on this world for some 15-years now and have failed to come up with simple cultural aspects, so thought it's high time I start working on certain details, which should hopefully help flesh out the world.

I'm hoping to give priority to this project, commissioning art specifically for this work, including character art and more environment art. And I plan on making more maps focused on specific regions of Korachan - making this the first project that will go into great detail on a region, so ill need to come up with many more city names... :)

I intend on sharing chapters as they're completed so anyone hoping to get more worldbuilding content is in for a treat over the coming months.

Above is a mock-up of the cover - the art is not final, though I think suits it well. However I believe its more traditional to have some more aspects specific to the setting on the cover, perhaps showing technarcana and characters in the world, rather than just a vague, if gorgeous landscape.

It'll be a while before this one is released in full, though as I complete sections I will release them here, with art. Its a bit much to be looking forward to multiple gazetteers for now, but I admire your confidence in my one-man part-time operation :)

I'm hoping to come along right at the end and gather all the gazetteers up. If I start downloading now it'll just get lost on a hard drive.

Yeah I know, I brouth the roman empire example because it's the page which I referenced the most when writing my world. Nontheless this is an ambiguity that myself encounter so if my experience might help i'm glad. In my specific case in many cases I cannot even speak of nations because some civilization are not strictly territorially bounded. For example in my world Dragons have a civilization in the sense that with their magic have terraformed the planet from a barren waste to a verdant garden. The elf migrated in this world and, advancing in their magic, they build skyscraper city states which are considerably separated from one another and linked by portals. In their case geographic definition of nation make no sense and I must speak of peoples and etnicieties to make an equivalent text about them. My empire of vampires is not even constituted by a single human etnicity because all the human came from the same city that has been teleported, and that was the most multietnical city. My world in general and paradoxically, can speak of nation (as a people groou with same birthplace) only for the less advanced societies.

dont forget, my world is much more modernthan a roman example. however I think I understand what you mean now - i think you are referring to the blurb on the bottom of the cover, that says Korachani empire. In that respect, it makes more sense If I rename it 'Korachani nation' to specify that its about the peninsula and not all its territories.

Nate Mangion

As an incise, my approach come exactly because I write things in a wikipedia xD What you say in general applies only in the modern case of nation-states. If you take the page "Roman Civilization" antropologically Civilization means culture and it speaks about a culture which is an attribute of people and not a state. In a wikipedia article like Roman Empire, it's difficult you'll find cultural descriptions in a wikipedia because these description are off target I think that entitling all the "Korachani Empire" to speak of the "Korachani people and civilization" is a bit but comprehensible misleading point, but when you will speak of a region in the korachani empire that is not the korachani people how will you entitle it?

Impesio

Yeah but then what do you mean by Korachan Empire is not the literal Empire comprehending its colonies right? It' like descripting the roman empire describing mainly the italic peoples or am I getting wrong?

Impesio

I think that will lead to the document becoming too fragmented. imagine it like a wikipedia article for a country - as much as possible you give generic information. Under food and drink, for instance, you'd list the national dishes and the major food that is eaten based on resources. Then you can add a paragraph or two detailing regions that differ wildly from the average, that deserve to be called out specifically. then when you are detailing individual cities you can add any information specific to the city. otherwise the document will be far too fragmented with too many specific examples that detract from the whole

Nate Mangion

Mmh then I suppose it's a way to do it. I preferred separate descriptions trascending the state of reference.

Impesio

with regards to cousies - again there is a section specifically for food and drink which will detail differences by region and class.

Nate Mangion

true - that's why there's a section specifically for demographics and minorites - i've also added ethnicities to that section

Nate Mangion

Idon't know but in the case of many empire hystorical integration betwwen completely different population do not result in only one colture or people group. And vice versa Korachani people explanted in centuries in other region often cannot mantain cultural aspects like food and drink due to different cousines

Impesio

I think in this context the empire IS its people.

Nate Mangion

Eve tough, following my humble opinion, many of the sociocultural traits you described are not strictly associated to the Korachani Empire but to the Korachiani people

Impesio

Yeah, making a good structure from the beginnig is a key factor

Impesio

Yeah, I'm still not 100% sure of the order and what goes in which section, though it's looking better than it did this morning. The only problem is filling it with content!

Nate Mangion

I'm doing somthing similar for my world but this is sure impressing. Even for me the major difficulty was the order of informations
