I've not watched Alien Earth, but I've just dinged it on my Disney app, so I'll defo give it a go. As for the Alien / Predator films, I'm a massive fan, I only recently binged watched the lot, and then watched Alien Romulus, which was ok. It's a shame the Alien War experience in the old Trocadero wasn't open, I bet Sanja would have loved that. I know back in the day, we went twice and it scared the crap out of me. Oh happy days! π€£

2025-08-21 13:54:50 +0000 UTCI really enjoyed the first two episodes, but there's a lot of room for improvement, I think. Given how it started, with the near anal level emulation of the opening of Scott's original film, I feared it was going to be another nostalgia-fest, like Romulus was. Thankfully, it started to do its own thing after that opening section. I love all of the new stuff, like the mind transfer into synthetic bodies, the cyborgs, the new alien species, and the idea that there are rival mega-corporations. It had more new ideas in the first half hour than Romulus had in its entirely. On the down side, some of the writing was a little odd. People didn't seem all that astonished that there were alien beings running around. Maybe there will be a later explanation for that though. The standard of the effects varied wildly. I noticed in the end credits that there were quite a few different effects houses involved, and you could tell. Some shots were amazing, others looked very amateurish. Oddly, I think the xenomorph is one of the weaker aspects of the show too. I know they tend to redesign the creature for every project, and it's clear in this show they were aiming for something more like a big cat - a bit beefier and more of a quadruped - but it looks ungraceful and too rubbery. It's lost that oily, otherworldly, strange sexuality of Giger's original design. Overall, I thought it was solid rather than spectacular, but it's early days. Really looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.
