BLOG: MELVYN BRAGG NEWS - PLUS EXCITING GET-TOGETHER PLAN!

Morning gang.

Firstly... sorry I'm behind replying to comments on here. Been a busy week. I'll try and catch up tonight.

So! I love this phase of doing vids, when all the pieces start coming together. See above!

We’ve landed our first expert interviewee for the next big vid. It’s one I’m really, really excited about. Like Igor Witkowski, he’s a big get – probably nobody knows more on the subject. When I was researching, his name kept coming up again and again – and I was actually listening to him being interviewed by Melvyn Bragg when he messaged me. 

Aside: it was the RUDEST interview I’ve ever heard. Is Melvyn Bragg always that rude? Interrupting, challenging (on a subject you don’t really need to challenge anyone on)… He so irritated me that I almost switched it off, but it was an interesting topic. 

Second aside: when I went to Royal Television Society Awards years back, Melvyn Bragg said goodnight to me. I was in the foyer and he swanned past. “Goodnight!”. That was the extent of the interaction. And moments later Peter Firmin, who was carrying Bagpuss under his arm at the time, did the exact same thing. I know all the stars me. 

Anyway.

There are a couple of other people I’m trying to secure too. I absolutely LOVE the angle we’re taking on this. It’s coming at it from a completely different direction to where you might expect, but it’s so us – skirting that line between what’s known and what might-be, and finding ways to make it universal. 

We had an idea for it yesterday that we MAY do… but I’m genuinely nervous about it. I’d have to confront one of my biggest fears. There’s that part of me that knows me being terrified would make for a good video, and be the perfect climax, but… seriously: so, so scared at the thought. Currently leaning towards bottling it. 

I know I’m being vague about all this, which is probably frustrating, but I want you to be surprised.

We might actually be shooting some b-roll tomorrow. We’re taking the grandkids to an air museum, which kind of ties into one of the other videos we’re hoping to film on the trip to Scarborough. Overall, it’s another ambitious filming schedule – boat! We’re taking a boat out onto the North Sea! Boat!!! –

Talking of… Biffo’s Brain people… there’s some exciting news coming later today. We’re going G’hunting again, and this time… you can be a part of it. Depending on how many sign up, we might be able to open it up to lower tiers, starting with Writer’s Club and working our way down. I’ll keep you all posted.
