Oh the vagaries of YouTube and its damned algorithm!

So, now our most recent videos have been hit with “limited ads” for being unsuitable for “most audiences”. Which means they’re not getting pushed out, which means the latest one – just a mere six minutes! – is our worst performing video for a long time.

That’s okay, because it was an experiment, but… still. Looking at where YouTube was (barely) recommending it before this… it’s the most random selection of other videos. Completely unrelated topics (it doesn’t help that YT’s categories are so vague and broad that our videos have to be labelled “Travel and events”). 

I’ve requested a manual review, but they generally tend to take a week or more. So… that’s really annoying. I dunno if this is a result of that psychopathic commenter reporting us for using “AI misinformation”, or it’s just certain keywords getting it flagged up at this politically sensitive time, but it demonstrates just how much of a knife edge it can be dealing with YouTube. 

Thankfully, our next videos will deal with less contentious stuff - less contentious than, y'know, saying war is bad - as we’re going nowhere near WW2, or Hitler, and they’ll be a lot lighter. 

We’re going to take a bit of a break from uploading after the Igor Witkowski video goes up, to work on those videos, get past this point, and give the audience a chance to miss us. 

I really wanted to see if I could upload regularly, and if that would help us, but clearly a more spaced-out upload schedule works better for this audience. Those first 24hrs are crucial, and if subscribers aren’t clicking in the first 24 hours – and for the last two vids they weren’t – it doesn’t get pushed out.

And it definitely doesn’t get pushed out if we either get flagged by an idiot, and then get our ads limited.

That doesn’t mean we won’t do stuff for Patreon in the meantime, though, so worry ye not.

Right. Today I'm back at the day job, in-between looking up hotels and planning our route for the next run of filming. More soon!
